congrats to team USA
sure the team put together wasnt as good as it could have been (needed some passing playmakers in the worse way) but to no fault of the players who volunteered their offseason to represent the US.
This is truly a high risk low reward journey for the US. The US wins gold and many shrug it off as the expected outcome and even in victory gets nitpicked for not dominating as much as some one of expected. Dont win gold and suffer brutal criticism and humiliation. And no matter how good the USA is there will always be an outside chance of an upset as long as there are teams decent enough to get the jump in a game that the US goes cold in.

Interesting how their entire starting lineup last season consisted of Olympians if you count Curry with the 2014 Fiba team. Even had a gold medalist in Iggy coming off the bench.

U.S. beats Serbia handily to win third straight gold

Quote:
The United States Men's National Team won its third straight Olympic gold medal on Sunday, defeating Serbia, 96-66. The victory completed another sweep of the basketball competition by the U.S. Men and Women and gave Mike Krzyzewski a 60-1 record as he retires as the head coach of the National Team.

Congrats to Melo. 3 Olympic Gold. That's a huge accomplishment and definitely worthy of respect.

But we couldn't have CP3 because that would have been "so unfair" . Ah...Stern...

Hope DJ doesn't do something dumb like try to equalize his Gold medal with an NBA championship. Anybody who watched this tournament can clearly see the difference in intensity level between an NBA Finals game and an Olympic game. You can just hear the difference as well. In an Olympics game, the crowd is indifferent while in an NBA Finals game its pretty damn loud.

I don't get fans trying to dictate how players should feel about accomplishments. How they feel is how they feel. I think they are in a much better position to make the judgement, not only because they're the ones actually playing the game, but also because they're talking about themselves.

Anthony leaves lasting legacy of leadership with USA .............

In his final Olympic appearance, Carmelo Anthony drove the U.S. to another gold and showed how a star can shape the team, too

Quote:
For all the justifiable and understandable page views and sports talk hours Kevin Durant's free-agency decision produced the past seven weeks, this was Carmelo Anthony's offseason, in so many different and meaningful ways.
It ended with a third gold medal for Anthony Sunday, with Anthony's U.S. team bludgeoning Serbia by 30, in what was Anthony's last game for USA Basketball. And as he did the postgame interview with NBC, he choked up.

THANK YOU COACH K!!

Coach K Leaves Team USA as Popovich Set to Take Over

Quote:
U.S. men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski ended his national team career on a high note as Team USA overpowered Serbia at the Rio Games for their third straight Olympic gold medal. Sunday’s 96-66 victory capped off the most successful coaching career in men’s Olympic basketball history, with Krzyzewski becoming the first coach to lead three teams to gold.

Coach K did a fantastic job. I am not a big fan of all the flopping his Duke teams do but as far as his work on Team USA....it is top notch. The guys play hard for him and you can tell they respect him.
