Wow, I hope he has found co-investors.

Magic made a mint, but it wasn't via the VC route, and I believe he learned a bit from Dr. Buss, perhaps getting a Rolodex of contacts. Kobe strikes me as someone who likes to go alone, and that's dangerous.

Basically a wealth building tool for him.

If he sees good returns he could be a billionaire in 10 years from this fund alone, not including his other wealth.

How about we find out the contents of this portfolio and start the same exact fund, open to all Lakersground billionaires in training.

Who is in with me? As Kobe goes, so do we.

The fund does not include Bryant's personal investments that he makes through Kobe Inc., a company he started in 2014. His first investment was in sports drink company BodyArmor, which partnered with the Los Angeles Lakers for his final game merchandise. The $1.2 million in merchandise sold at the Staples Center on April 14 set an industry record for merchandise sales at a stadium and arena in a single day.

Interesting tidbit.

I just hope it doesn't go the way of Curt Schilling's 38 Studios.

Kobe's not doing it with tax payers money, like the anti-big Government, pro- "free market" conservative Schilling did.

Chris Sacca (the billionair investor with Uber, Photobucket and a bunch of other mega companies to his credit) had a great anecdote regarding Kobe on the Simmons podcast:

Here's the podcast if anyone is interested.

I think Kobe is going to make it for sure.

And he also cost the taxpayers of Rhode Island roughly $75 per household, as quite a bit of the debt was guaranteed by their idiotic state government.

Seriously, government has no business investing in business. They don't know how to balance their own books, how in the hell are they going to understand burn rates, revenue growth, projected completion timeline of a mountain of complex code, etc.? But then neither did Schilling.

Schilling hired some suits, I believe from Hasbro, to run the operation. First you should hire experienced entrepreneurs who understand how to manage cash burn rates and complex software project management (lots of simultaneously moving parts). This isn't your simple sw integration job that is performed in the bowels of a corporation. Second, the idiot was burning through cash, so what did he do? He acquired another gaming development firm. Jesus Christ, how on Earth could Schilling and his team of suits be so stupid? You've added complexity to the operation, and you used cash, not equity, to buy another firm.

There's more to it of course, including the poor slobs who were given guarantees to be reimbursed for selling their homes at a loss and moving to RI, or the many folks who were either employees or subcontractors and got stiffed. Kind of what you expect from a Trump organization.

Rule #1: Never, ever, invest your own money in a fledgling video game company. If you know _anything_ about the business.

Kobe is obsessive. He will do well.

At least we got a decent ( if repetitive) game out of it . I actually think it was originally supposed to be an MMO. That would have been an even bigger dumpster fire.

So Did you guys in LA get the holiday off?

Quote:
Even as the Los Angeles City Council paused to honor Kobe Bryant and reflect on everything he has done since he arrived in the city 20 years ago it was evident that Bryant's mind was elsewhere, looking ahead, consumed with what comes next.

Wednesday was "Kobe Bryant Day" in L.A., by official proclamation.

Kobe Bryant Day
