|
|
Okay so there is the 8 vs 24 debate, and I just had a realization.
What if they somehow got a special case for Kobe's jersey where on one side would be 8 and on the other side would be 24, and you could potentially even have it flip at half-time of Laker games. So at the start of the game for the first half it would be #8 and then during the second half it would be #24.
Someone call up the Buss's my idea is gold!
Anyone else have thoughts on how to manage the jersey # problem? _________________ How can I get a copy of a Laker game played on Sunday, March 11, 2001 Sonics/Lakers? If you know PM me please
I would be willing to pay you for it. |

I'd just ask Kobe what number he wants retired. |

Kobe talked about it about at the Kobe day press conference. He said he had 10 years as #8 and 10 years as #24 and #10 is also his Olympic number. |

They will retire both.
They have to IMO. I don't see anyone ever wearing either number again as long as they are in PnG

My guess is both numbers get retired from being used, but 24 is the one that will be hung. |

Interesting thought.
I also thought they may do a "8/24" |

Would it bother the other HoFer's on that wall if he got two jerseys up there? I can't think of another reason not to do it. |

I've also thought that it makes more sense to have 8 on one side and 24 on the other side.
Who really cares if it's unconventional? It's the cleanest suggestion imo. |

Hate to be that guy, but it's "to" much. Would hate even more to see a classic get permanently tarnished. There have already been signs. |

It's an inside joke to say "to" instead of "too".
Anyways, I see a retirement of 8/24. No way should any future Laker wear the #8... that would be preposterous. /Stephen A |

If you retire ONE jersey, I think you have to go '24'. And I think that's what Kobe would choose. '8' was awesome, but it is often viewed as "Shaq's sidekick". Which is completely ridiculous because no one ever wins titles solo.
I do like the OP's idea though.... with a bit of a twist. Retire both numbers but display '8' in the spring and summer, and '24' in the fall and winter. |

I would suggest officially retire 24, hang that one in the rafters.
Unofficially retire number 8.
On his sculpture, have 8 in the front 24 in the back.

#24 will hang in the rafters, but nobody is ever playing with #8 again. |

I'd retire them both. Then alternate which number you hang on a yearly basis. That way you honor both numbers without making it a bigger deal then the other hall of famers |

It'll be 1 jersey hanging from the rafters with 8/24 as the numbers. _________________ Music is my medicine |

I think that retiring both numbers is a bad idea and more like something the Celtics would do than something the Lakers would do. Let him decide one and retire it, put the other into circulation. Kobe was great but no greater than Magic, Kareem and other Laker greats. You don't change what you do just because a player has a whim to change numbers during his career. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Just hang #24 in the rafters, and maybe only put #24 on the statue. Even if they don't officially retire #8, you're not going to see a future Laker voluntarily wear the 81-point game jersey number. _________________ -Avenue of the Champions- -RIP Dr Buss- #824
