Wow his jumper is kinda suspect. Very slow and he seems like he's hesitant.

That's all I got. Just wanted to say Here Yi! Here Yi!

Great video as always man... you got a future in this I'm sure. Will be shocked if you haven't been getting calls from Sportsnet, your videos blow away anything they do and they are desperate for good Lakers content (I know a guy who works at Sportsnet, if you want me to put in a word - PM me).

I would just throw in an annotation at 7:40 acknowledging that this dude you highlighted is not Yi... Yi is the guy in the middle with the bad closeout on Melo that gets blown by and fouls.

I noticed that too. Was gonna say something. But the video as a whole was so great, I gave it a pass.

I liken it to when you're getting ready to go out and one of your boys has a loose booger in his nose.. you're only doing him a disservice if you don't tell him

Hopefully there are enough bad defenses out there poor at closing out that he can get the shot off unbothered at a good rate. It's not like we're going to the playoffs anyway where that kind of thing can really be exposed.

I definitely appreciate you pointing out the booger and totally agree with your philosophy there.

I made an annotation on the video pointing out that I messed up there.

Well Yi will probably be playing center and most centers don't close out that well to the 3 so I think he can still contribute as long as you play him as a stretch 5.

Nice vid GT. Looks like a player with some tools and some weaknesses. Nothing wrong with that.

It shows that there might be difficulty playing it back on some devices, but it's not blocked in any country. Try watching it on a different device and if that doesn't work or isn't an option, I'll upload it to Vimeo for you. Let me know.

Any time, JJin.

Yey!! It worked in my PC.
You are right. it was my android-based phone's fault.
Next time some one remind me to purchase i-phone, so I can enjoy GT's new vid.

I watched the video and I gotta say he has some solid athleticism, if he can use it to be a solid shot blocker that will open things up even more for his game.

We have the perfect training staff and coaching staff to help him learn.

Thanks for the vid GT.

When I see him move, I sometimes forget what position he plays.

He's like a sucky 3, a so-so 4, or a nimble 5.

The Yi/Randle combination does make sense. That rim- protection , though. .

FWIW, I think rim protection is becoming less important. I think it's more important that you have a guy who can rotate over and get in front of someone at the rim, which quick guys can do, hence the ability for teams like Cleveland or Golden State to win titles with guys like Thompson or Draymond play a lot at the 5.

The problem is that neither Randle nor Yi are particularly good at rotation either, but they're at least capable of it.

I like the theory of Randle/Yi too. Not as worried about shot blocking if they play with the right guys on the perimeter. Bigger issue is shooting. If Yi can reliably shoot wide open looks and Randle becomes serviceable, I think Luke can coach up the rotations. Leaves you with some good two-way options. Several ifs though.

So I went to LakersFilmRoom U late last night and binge watched several of the vids. I need to watch the motion offense vid again because I was confused, but anyway I watched this video and I find I still don't have an opinion about adding Yi. Hmmm 🤔

Great vids, great resource. Really enjoying learning about all of this stuff, thanks much!

(And the music is consistently bangin)

Yi is a perfect 1 year cap holder. Keeps the Chinese fan base involved with the Lakers and he offers a stretch center role for the team. I don't see why he wouldn't stick on the team. It's a low risk, moderate reward move for the Lakers.
Reason he wouldn't stick is if he isn't doing anything for the team and the Lakers don't want to pay $8 million for a 15th man. He certainly is at risk for getting cut anytime he's due a bonus for games on roster if he isn't producing anything.
Ergo, "low risk, moderate reward" move. If he plays well to stay, an 8m cap holder deal is not a problem.
Great Video

One should factor that he will usually be playing against the opposition's bench players for 10-15 minutes MAX. With the large drop in quality NBA centers after DeAndre and Boogie, Yi should be ok if he is a legitimate threat as a shooter. With the other centers such as Biyombo and others having serious flaws in their overall games, he could be another Matt Bonner

In Luke's system with its constant movement, Yi will flourish
