Metta is there to work with Ingram in practice, defend him and teach him defensive tricks, same reasons Deng is there to provide veteran leadership and do the same.

Ingram and Metta have been going at it at the practice facility, it can only help Ingram to deal with him.

He's been at the facility for the past 2-3 weeks and according to Ingram has been helping him out a LOT

He can always transition into a player development role if he's not good enough to earn that spot.
He wasn't good enough on a 17-win team.
Yep, Ron-Ron is done-done...
MWP is an invaluable player Luke and his new culture of having fun, focused on winning, playing smart, giving 150% anytime they are on the court, playing tough D and thoroughly enjoying being a Laker!

He will thoroughly test the mettle of players such Auguste, Yi, Zubic, AB and others to see if they belong on the roster because few will NBA players will test them more

Hmm, thanks for sharing this and passing that bit of info along. Now we have clarity on what influenced them to bring him back. He's less likely to make the roster this time around since they have Deng, but I suppose it's worth a shot. We'll see.

Nice. He will establish practice defense mentality. He will flourish as leader now that Kobe is gone.

Just give MWP an assistant coach or player development position and save the roster spot for a younger player. He can still practice with the guys and share his knowledge.

The paycut and work would be quite dramatic for MWP.

IIRC veteran's minimum is 1.4m (with a good chunk subsidized by the NBA).

If he went the assistant route, he'd probably get paid 100-150k, and have to put in just as many hours if not more.

It will be dramatic, but unless he wants to go back overseas, it's coming in about 5 weeks.

If he can teach our guys to play at least 50% of that defense, I'd love him as a coach.

Look at how he shuffles his feet and the quickness of hands. All time great defensive instincts.

He seemed to be a good influence on Randle. Obviously it is normal to sign vets to help the young guys.

He probably won't make the team but it wouldn't be that bad if he did. As long as he gets no meaningful minutes. He shouldn't be here to actually play. I don't think there is going to be any room for him. Waiving Nick will create a roster spot but I think Auguste would get that spot. Well depends how he plays during training camp.

I think that was everyone's wish last year too but he was getting a large chunk of minutes whenever he was activated. Its crazy that he had more minutes than Tarik Black.
