What a college football game that was. Amazing and it is only the first week, the eyes of Texas are smiling tonight!

That was freaking amazing. Never seen anything quite like it.

I didn't see this live, but saw a replay later. How was there no review on that play where Torii Hunter Jr. got knocked out? That was a clear illegal hit, particularly the way that college football has its rules. It's a reviewable play, too. He was down for minutes. You mean to tell me that it didn't occur to the officials in those multiple minutes that they shouldn't at least review the play? Seriously? He's just knocked out because...maybe he hit the goal post?

To be clear, I am not a Notre Dame apologist. As Manti Te'o once said, far from it. And it was in the 3rd quarter so it's not like it cost them the game. But they ended up not scoring on that drive at all, and they also lost their best wide receiver on what pretty clearly looked like an illegal hit, one that wasn't even reviewed.

I don't see that play as targeting at all. He clearly tried to avoid leading with the helmet and used his shoulder. The defender is allowed to hit the receiver in order to try and force the drop. That's how you hit in football. He was just trying to make the play. It's the kind of hit that when two people are coming at each other is going to look violent.

It was a good non-call. And the debate probably isn't had if Torii jumps to his feet right after the play.

ND

But I can't say I'm surprised the last time Texas beat ND was in 1970 and never at home until last night. Didn't help that some of our best players decided to be selfish and do something criminal and stupid weeks before where some had to be tossed from the team or suspended.

We were due for this.

But how do you not even look at it? Because it's reviewable in college. The guy got knocked out. So he was obviously struck in his head/helmet. Whether it was legal or not, it happened at full speed. How do you not review it and see what happened? As I said, I didn't see the game live, so please feel free to add any pertinent info that I might be missing. Maybe I'm missing something and the replay official told the ref that there was no need to look at it, I don't know. But as I understand it, they didn't even look at it.

Just because they didn't formally stop play and announce a replay review like they do in the NFL doesn't mean it wasn't looked at. There were a coupe of plays in that game where the snap was held up while they waited for clearance to continue based on a decision to review or not.

I certainly wasn't listening to every word said by the commentators, but I never heard anyone say the officials said "there's no need to look at it". But even if they did, that's the officials making a call.

Florida State is getting slaughtered by Louisville

I admit to being amused that Louisville employs Bobby Petrino and Rick Pitino

173 combined rushing/receiving yards in a half. That's just gross.

Looks like USC Football is reliving the 90's....cuz the football program is terrible right now....1-3 to start the season and they just gave Helton a contract........which they are probably sorely regretting right about now.

Lol Helton is straight trash no way Swann doesn't fire him at the end of the year or maybe even mideason. Gotta open up the bank for Tom Herman if SC wants to be a power again.

Helton has no balls at all. Down 17 with 9 minutes left against Stanford and he punts on 4th and 6 when his team is around the other teams 40-46 yard line. This week on 4th and 3 on the opposing teams 36, he punts to pin them down, even though his offense was playing well and his defense had been on the field too much and had just given up 2 tds for long drives.

Many of these coaches are way too conservative IMO and believe that punting the football wins games. They coach like they are scared. I'd rather have a coach that is overly aggressive that likes to go for it if he thinks his team has an edge.

I did see Shaw for Stanford do the same thing and win, but I felt like his team was good enough to win in spite of his scared coaching, not because of it. UCLA also really helped them out at the end by not winning the game on offense and having a stupid penalty on special teams.

LSU has already contacted Briles and Hermans agents for the job. Briles offense at LSU with all the talent on defense they have could be scary.
