Done deal: Lady Gaga will perform at Super Bowl halftime

The talks have ended, because a deal is done. And if I remembered the names of any of her songs or some of their lyrics, I’d be tempted to start dropping in some stupid puns.

Lady Gaga will perform at halftime of Super Bowl LI in Houston, according to Terry Lefton of SportsBusiness Daily.

The announcement will come on Sunday during FOX’s NFL programming, probably during the pregame show.

It’s unknown whether other performers will be involved in the show. The biggest unknown is whether the unpaid gig has indeed morphed into a revenue source for the league, based on a report from the Wall Street Journal in 2014 that the idea had been floated of, for example, the artist surrendering a portion of increased ticket sales arising from the nine-figure audience the Super Bowl will be delivering.

It's 2008?

Didn't know that Lady Gaga was still relatively popular today...

I don't mean to hate on gaga. Im sure she will do fine. But I wonder why we haven't heard groups like Metallica, beastie boys (before MCA died) foo fighters, dr.dre and snoop, drake, Chris brown, green day, etc. do half time shows.

These guys sold a $hit load of albums and made more hits than gaga

You wonder why Chris Brown and Dr. Dre haven't done Super Bowl half time shows? Seriously? With all the criticism the NFL has faced in regards to not being tough enough on players who commit assault, you think they should have those two front and center?

They try to make the Halftime Show as family friendly as possible....I mean other than Prince having his guitar as a phallic symbol or Janet Jackson inadvertently showing her goods, the halftime show is relatively clean and lame....

Interestingly enough, all those music artists that the poster mentioned have had a influence on the youth.

Well I didn't even think about the political correctness about that side of selecting performers all I am saying is that why not have guys like them who sold a bunch of hit songs perform. Not necessarily dre and snoop. But they can do Metallica or the foo fighters

Can you name an act that played the SB that DIDN'T sell a bunch of hit songs?

Why would Metallica want to do a Super Bowl? Bear in mind that a Super Bowl show isn't something where a band just shows up and plays a couple songs. It is a big production and a hassle.

Heck, the NFL is trying to find ways to make bands pay for the privilege of getting the exposure that comes with a Super Bowl performance. For most bands, that would be laughable. For a fading act like Lady Gaga, that might make more sense. Otherwise, there are bands that do it as sort of a career achievement marker, as was probably the case with Bruce Springsteen.

Also, the NFL has this stupid obsession pairing up disparate acts. I was sort of interested in seeing Coldplay perform last year. I don't know that much about them, but I liked a couple of their songs. So next thing you know, we're getting a couple different artists rolling onto the field performing songs that I don't remotely care about. It seems like this happens a lot. I remember it happening with the Black Eyed Peas or whatever they're called. I swear the NFL would think it would clever to book Neil Young and then toss in a hip hop band as a surprise appearance. Or vice versa.

It's called "half time show" not "good music concert".

I think the halftime show is only 12 minutes so really you aren't going to get much if you expect a concert, maybe 2 full length songs thats about it. Thats why they usually go the mashup route where they splice individual songs together to allow the audience to get a fast forwarded history of their works.

Oh absolutely. Wasn't gonna subject myself to their god-awful, coma-inducing music.

I meant that anybody other than them is a great choice
