Report: Timberwolves expect Kevin Garnett to retire

Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves are advancing toward a buyout, but to what end? So Garnett can join another team or so he can get paid into retirement?

Marc Stein of ESPN:

The belief in Minneapolis, sources told ESPN.com, is that Garnett, at age 40, will opt for retirement after 21 seasons in the NBA.

I’m curious how certain the Timberwolves are of this. They probably don’t want to give Garnett a going-away gift just so he can join another team. Minnesota might want an assurance, rather than impression, of Garnett’s intentions before agreeing to a buyout amount.

If this ends Garnett’s career, it has been a fantastic one. He won an MVP, finished top dozen in voting 10 times and won a Defensive Player of the Year award. Garnett landed spots in 15 All-Star games and on nine All-NBA teams. A title with the 2008 Celtics solidified Garnett’s résumé as an all-time elite player.

He’ll surely join Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant in the Hall of Fame – maybe even be inducted with them five years from now.

21 years is a lot in the NBA. It was time to step aside and let the young pups take over.

He can now move on to his better fitting career of yelling at and picking fights with short white guys as a motivational speaker.

Yes, that will be one impressive HOF class.

He has a great career, but he never got the chance to make anything happen in Minnesota while they had a somewhat formidable team.

You can dink him a bit for not being able to get past the first round when they had some OK teams, but their 2003-04 squad is really the only one during his time there that was close to being formidable. Compared to Duncan and Kobe, he got a raw deal as far as teammates up until he got to Boston.

Does anyone else find it kind of disrespectful that Wiggins and Towns were team captains this past season but Garnett was not?

Probably didn't want it. He hasn't been a team captain on any of his teams since 2011.

this should be the greatest HOF class ever, unless the media hype the 2009 class
KG, TD, KB vs MJ, David robinson, John Stockton

maybe if Lebron, melo, dwade ,cp2 retires together? still wouldn't top 2021 hall of fame

And sadly maybe Chris Bosh. Not sure if he is a first ballot hall of a famer though.

I'm gonna try to make a list of (bleep) ed up things KG allegedly said while trash talking.
If you guys know of any I missed, please add on.

1) Called Charlie Villanueva a Cancer patient.
2) Told Melo that LaLa's lady regions taste like Honey Nut Cheerios.
3) Told Dwight Howard to "paint your face Clown"
4) Wished Tim Duncan "Happy Mother's Day, Mother (bleep)" after knowing Duncan's mom died of breast cancer years in advance.
5) Asked rookie Noah if he could rub through his hair like he does to females. Noah got mad and responded by saying always looked up to KG and had his poster on his wall in college. Garnett replied, "(bleep) you!" Apparently it crushed Noah.

Yes, this guy was a douche....but he was also a damn good basketball player.
It also explains why he became a Celtic.
