So well spoken.

It's (kind of) like we got Pau in the locker-room again.

Training Camp Day 2

Playing witn/for Fisher and now for Luke, the Laker connection is strong with this one.

Very vocal. Game one and he was huddling people up, directing, and made timely big shots

Great addition for spurts

Solid game, just a true floor general dictating the tempo without rushing anything and dropping some long range bombs when open. His defense was not a problem with a mobile backcourt behind him.

Will be interesting to watch who wins the back up PG spot over the next 7 games but this is pretty accurate.

What spark? When Huertas was playing, opposition could sag off him and that caused our spacing to be horrible

He is a playmaker in the pick-and-roll and can get a stagnant offense moving (like in the Golden State win last year). On the other hand, his own offense is non-existent and his defense is not so good. A spark but not someone who should be a consistent presence in your line-up.

Calderon is so much better than Huertas they shouldn't even be compared. Huertas can't shoot and is so bad defensively it's laughable. Calderon is a solid leader who can drain 3's and is always a threat. There is no use for Huertas...In fact, he should be released.

I think default backup PG should be Calderon. His shooting alone opens up the floor.

Huertas is a nice change of pace 3rd PG option. But he's limited.

Agreed

I'd go further and say I'd be happy with a three guard rotation of JC, Dlo and Calderon using Lou just when needing an ISO quick bucket and Brown when needing better D.

Huertas should get those garbage minutes.

They're going to play Lou. He's an rotation quality player, not a starter.

Calderon is a smart, heady player. He knows how to pace himself and take what the defense gives him.
His defense is nothing to write home about but it is much better than Huertas. Nice pick up because we needed help at point.

Totally agree. Lou is part of the 4 man guard rotation (DLO, Clarkson and Calderon). So let's get used to it. And frankly, he played the best of all the starters last night.

Lou has earned his spot in the rotation. Lou is a proven scorer and a crafty veteran. Sure he can be a blackhole and is awful defensively.
This team is not a defensive juggernaut just yet so he blends in nicely at this point.

I didn't think Huertas played poorly tonight, but in the very early backup point guard battle, I felt Calderon won round 1. One of the things I like about how the team is constructed right now is that there is a variety of skill sets at every position, and room for guys to make an impact in their own way when a situation calls for it. So long as guys leave their egos at the door, I think there's room for everyone to co-exist.

PG:
Russell: Scoring, Defense
Huertas: Passing
Calderon: Shooting, Calming Presence

SG:
Clarkson: Scoring, Passing
Lou: Scoring
Brown: Defense, Shooting

SF:
Deng: Defense, Calming Presence, Scoring
Ingram: Defense, Shooting
Young: Instant Offense

PF:
Randle: Slashing, Rebounding
Nance: Defense, All Around Play
Yi: Shooting

C:
Mozgov: Defense, Pick and Roll Offense
Black: High Energy
Zubac: Shot Blocking

Then of course most of the roster (aside from Mozgov and Zubac) can play multiple positions. They have role players who can come in and cover a lot of different situations.

Calderon isn't the playmaker that Huertas is. He's can't defend or score like Russell can. But he was the best point guard tonight because he takes care of the ball better than either of those two, and is a deadly shooter. I liked what I saw from him tonight.

Smart vet that understands space and pace and is a knockdown shooter. And, most importantly, he takes care of the ball.
