To be fair Deng hasnt been available for much of the preseason and he is suppose to be a major addition to our team although I do question the fit up front with Mozgov/Randle/Deng

Deng is a PF in 2016.

I thought you didnt believe in positions in 2016

I believe that you need to have particular skill sets on the floor. So sure, he can play SF if you have a big who can run in transition, handle the ball, defend the perimeter, & stretch the floor on offense. We don't have that guy, so those skills would be coming from a smaller player.

Sounds like the guy we want Randle to become.

Lakers Coach Luke Walton prefers to lead with love

I honestly believe the Lakers are looking to teach these young kids how to play and beyond that, they are playing guys, trying to showcase their talents to increase their trade potential.

Honestly, the only 3 locks on this team are DLO, Ingram and Zubac. Everyone else is expendable and they better realize it and up their games by fixing their weak spots.

Even with these three guys I named, Ingram gets the pass because he is a rookie and they will give him a year or two to show potential. Same with Zubac except that he has an inexpensive contract and solid potential down the road. I think they will figure out a way to make him backup and keep him around for 3-4 years at the least, much like Sacre. At that point, if he hasn't started to pan out, they can think about moving him.

I am beginning to believe that Randles lack of an outside shot, despite the rest of his solid game, is going to diminish his role with the Lakers and make him trade bait. I am a bit sad about that, because I like the kid, but we really need someone who can be a consistent threat from outside.

I do think we will keep Clarkson but simply because he is a solid rotation guy who is more than willing to play a role with this team. He seems like a solid dude who can do a lot, consistently, even though he may not be the star player we hoped.

As of right now, they are flushing the team out, deciding who is trade bait and who will stay. There are some guys who they will give longer to prove themselves but their time is on the clock. Gotta improve and produce or be gone. The next 3 years will have some tough times when a youngster or two gets traded.

Ingram is the only lock on this team.

I think it's DLo and Ingram. DLo is the engine for the future offense while Ingram will be the do everything guy.

One of my high school friends went to Arizona with Luke. Puffed the magic dragon with the Walton family over school break.
Ya, they're hippies.

I loved what Luke did in the 3rd. I think he had Nance, Randle, Young, JC and DLO and they were switching on every screen. JC got lost on one switch, and they got backdoored a couple of times, but it looked nice. As GT said in one of these many threads, that is how they will protect the rim while playing small ball.

They basically stuffed that Capela lob play. Don't think he had one in the 2nd half. Haren only had 3 assists in the 2nd half.

I freaking hated his 4th quarter rotations especially leaving Russell out for WAYYYY too long but most of this game was well coached by him, especially offensively.

Good stuff Luke.

Yeah, I wish they rode Russell a bit longer when he had such a hot start. I also didn't like MWP playing at all; despite his rep, he can't guard Harden.

Overall though, great game. I'm curious if he made any adjustments to guard that PnR that killed us all game. Hopefully GT can elaborate in his video.

Good stuff Luke.

The bench unit was rolling and he rode with it in the fourth.

Congrats to Luke on your first W coach.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter

Walton said even though MWP picked up fouls, perhaps forgetting how the NBA is called these days, he sparked the defensive energy late.

I kid you not, there were people on the Warriors reddit that were crying over some of his subs during the 39-4 run they started the season with last year.

"Well, in that game against that team, if he played that player X minutes, they would have won that game".

Seriously people, get a grip.

When the bench came in, LAL was down 6...they drove that to a 4pt lead that they then held onto for almost 4 minutes.
Luke rode that because they'd got the lead, and held it - smart coaching, since they were on a roll

When they finally let that drop down to only 2, Luke swapped some starters in - which was also the smart thing to do and the smart time to do it

Lou wasn't for the most part and Nance wasn't doing much and the defense was giving up easily in the paint. Russell and Randle (or Mozgov) were the clear subs the minutes Harden came in. the only one in the 2nd unit that was on a tear was Clarkson.

We saw a lot of the personnel moves everyone has been screaming for, from Deng at the 4 to Ingram at the 2. I was worried from the preseason rotations, but those worries are gone. Creativity and flexibility, what a breath of fresh air to have those qualities in a HC.
