With all preseason games done, you may have a picture of how the Lakers will fare in the regular season.

Ignore how many games the Lakers will win or lose, about where do you think the Lakers will be in the Offensive Rtg and Defensive Rtg department?

My guess will be
Off 13th
Def 20th

Off 22nd
Def 29th

Not a knock on the players or coaching staff.
Too young, too many newcomers, and will Deng give his best effort all year?

Offense 23

Defense 16

Much worse the first half of the season, 15 or better in both for April.

I believe we can improve a lot our defense, as that's the main focus. Offensively, I think we'll struggle a bit more, as we have few reliable shooters and will be deploying a new system.

Def: 20th
Off: 25th

Just for fun, I'm going to copy-and-paste some preseason stats someone on the lakers subreddit posted yesterday. For playing the Warriors twice, we come out of this OK:

Scoring: 105.9 (9th in the NBA)
Opponent Scoring: 107.2 (4th worst in the NBA)
Rebounding: 78 (6th worst in the NBA)
FG%: 44.3 (15th in the NBA, right in the middle)
Opponent FG%: 45.1 (8th worst in the NBA)
Free Throw%: 65.9 (Worst in the NBA)
Three Point%: 35.7 (12th in the NBA, huge improvement as they were last in the league last season)
Opponent Three Point%: 35.3 (11th)
Assists: 22.1 (15th in the NBA, huge improvement)
Steals: 9.9 (10th in the NBA)
Blocks 3.8 (6th worst in the NBA)
Turnovers: 17.1 (17th, right in the middle of the pack)
Fouls: 24.5 (7th worst in the NBA)

My guesses for Lakers standings in rtg:

Offense: 18th - not blaming this on youth but roster construction not matching with a pace/space system at all
Defense: 25th - if LAL is above bottom 3 teams on D, Luke gets the Coach of the Year award. Think they're better than BKN, PHI at least.

Don't even know who's starting. How am I supposed to use the crystal ball to its full potential? Anyway here goes, since winning isn't a priority this season according to the smart guys on the site I'm going to say improved offense and bad defense.

15 offense
27 defense

I think the ceiling is:

Offense - 14th
Defense - 18th

& the floor is:

Offense - 24th
Defense - 26th

Just out of curiosity I took the average of these projections (17th offense, 22nd defense) and found the closest comparable for last season to be somewhere between the the Sac Kings and the Denver Nuggets.

Both of their records happened to be 33 - 49.

Interesting point.

If this were the final results of the season for the Lakers. Would it be considered a successful season?

IMO... absolutely.

A significant improvement of rankings and wins would be a great start to the Walton era. Now comes the fun part of watching the Lakers achieving (and surpassing ) those goals over the next 82 games.

Im going to predict late teens ranking or both-

Scoring 102 pts per / allowing 104 pts per. / differential of -2.

Overall a much improved competitive 30+ win team.

Curious to see opinions now that the Lakers have a couple games under their belts.

Still way to early to make any definitive statements but many of the predictions were not so far off. And overall the team has shown some solid improvement at being competitive every game. Obviously still work to be done but some positive signs IMO.

Currently using basic stats: (likely someone using advanced stats will post and advance the discussion)

Offense- 16th
Own- FG%- 22nd / 3pt% 16th /FT% 11th / TO 27th

Defense- 20th
point differential- 22nd (-6)
OPP- FG% 26th / 3pt% 8th / TO 8th

Reb% ranked- 19th

My overall impression is positive. Certainly need to play smarter, more efficiently and stop turning the ball over. Need to rebound better.

But the team is playing competitive ball. Especially on the defensive end from last year. As they build some chemistry and experience it hopefully will result into some wins as the season progresses.

So far so good for me. Thoughts?
