He's an athlete. His mix tapes are great.

Honestly, while I do hope Adam Silver gives us recompense for the CP3 veto (emphasis on 3, as in we deserve 3 top 3 picks), I'm looking at the Lakers likely conveying the pick this year, getting a 2nd rounder, and an unencumbered pick in 2018 (and 2 2nd rounders IIRC).

If we lost to Houston tonight by more than 10 points, expect this thread to expand by 30 pages by Friday.

I don't think we'll get a top 3 pick again but if we do I'd trade it for a veteran like Jimmy Butler.

yeah.. I'm surprised this didn't get locked.

but philly, Brooklyn.. then us?? even if we do get 27 wins.. we could end up with the 3rd pick.. which is the best of both worlds. 10 more wins (improvement) and another solid pick to propel us forward.

With DLO/Ingram as foundational pieces, would be nice to have a physical athletic freak at the SG spot. DLO/Ingram will be skilled players who aren't overly reliant on overt physical athleticism.

Less athletic Than DLO. But his wingspan is effing ridiculous.

No one in the upcoming draft is helping us significantly till 2020. I'd much rather make the playoffs in 2017-2018 and sign some free agents that would.

haven't been tracking these prospects this year...probably won't, but can Jackson shoot or is he another athletic guy who is a mess on the perimeter shooting wise?

He is total non shooter. Which is why I don't understand why he is considered by some to be the best prospect in the draft. If he could shoot, he would be a great fit.

Is it really too early when every projection I have seen has us as a bottom 3 team and the eye ball test tells me we're a bottom 5 team?

It's too early. I don't think we'll be bad enough to keep a top 3 pick. I predicted 35 wins.

I don't think it's too early, TBH. IMO, as much as I'd LOVE to be wrong, there's almost no chance that this team is a playoff team, unless D-Lo turns into a 24+ ppg guy, and Randle and/or Ingram become a 20ppg scorer and defender. But to expect that from any of these kids is unfair.

So what we'll probably get is a year of the youngins taking their lumps & learning the old-fashioned way, which equals no playoffs.

And, it doesn't look like we'll be signing any big name free agents anytime soon: Westbrook and Harden are off the market, and it looks like George will off the market soon. And it looks like, with the Mozgov signing, the Lakers have soured (or never were) that interested in Cousins. To be continued on that one.... Maybe the book isn't totally closed on him, but he brings his share of baggage.

So, that leaves the draft as the primary way to increase the talent on the team, period.

My biggest thing is, I think we have enough guard/swingman talent if Russell & Ingram pan out. Where we REALLY need help at is in the paint: Lakers would be next-gen contenders for real if we got a Towns or Davis-caliber big. But so far, there's none in the 2017 Draft class, which could change. But unless it does, I don't really care if we keep our pick in the 2017 draft: it's the 2018 draft that I'm really hoping we get a high pick in--there's a boatload of players 6'10" & over in that draft. (speaking of way too early talk)... lol

as long as we are in the lottery, there is a chance we keep pick.....35 wins is probably about 7th or 8th number of combinations in the lottery.

Uhhh, I'm a draft junkie (as are at least a handful of other regular (admittedly better) posters) and the Lakers do have a 2017 pick. I have no interest in making a tank thread, just getting ideas on early prospects from Mike -at- LG, 44, and others.

You guys think he's more athletic than DLO (at the same age)? I'll study his clips again. But I don't think so.

even if we do very well this year, and very unlikely to have 1st round pick, there will be (mostly bs) rumors about trades we may make to get a pick, etc.

Too bad we don't have a draft forum, eh?
