May be a better thing anyway...

Deng is a nice veteran balance next to JC/Nance/Black

It would make the bench even better imo. Ingram won't have to deal with getting frozen out on offense by guys like Lou Will while Deng is probably a better player now in a Iggy role.

I've never heard him called Lou Deng before, but the commentator kept calling him that

Srsly? How much sugarcoating do we need? 65 mil down the drain

Patience. Have you heard of that concept? Plus his role down the road is a reserve combo forward. He's keeping the seat warm for Ingram.

I honestly thought he showed up to camp looking heavy and out of shape. There were a couple of defensive plays last night where he showed some of the versatility and ability to use his length to keep rebounds alive as well as to help and recover. If I'm correct, we'll be seeing those types of plays more often from him as the season progresses.

He looked nice and steady out there last night. I think he'll continue to look better as he gets his legs under him especially after not playing much in the preseason.

I'm hoping the same. He definitely showed flashes of he has been (talent-wise) and of what he can be for this team (leadership-wise) this season. Let's hope the upward trend continues.

I like his game, doesn't force it, plays defense, and gives guidance to the young guys.

The guy is here to show our young core the ropes, and to be a steadying influence in games.

Unlike MWP, Deng has a lot to contribute on court and that garners respect from the young guys in a different way than a bench bound MWP.

He didn't have the best shooting game, but one thing I did like was how he went right over to Russell after that late game turnover. Thats one of the reasons he was brought in. GREAT influence. He'll also give effort on defense, and had one of those late tip ins.

Why couldn't we have gotten Allen Crabbe instead?

Basically. There was slim pickings because every team had money to spend, and most players wanted to stay at home where they were comfortable.

Only realstic options outside of Deng left were Jeff Green, Brandon Rush, Joe Johnson or Matt Barnes

Did Moe Harkless get max? If not, why didn't the Lakers try and throw 70 mil at him? He only got 40 from POR

Because Moe Harkless isn't worth $70MM.

The main thing is that he was restricted and the Blazers were planning on keeping him. Giving him 70 million is questionable is extremely questionable as well.

And Loul Deng is?

I would say he's more worthy of that kind of money than Harkless.

Harkless? Crabbe? We needed a veteran leaderish kinda player, not another talented yougster...

Deng will do fine, just shaking of some rust. The guy has always been heavily underrated, but he's a great fit on every team. Versatile on offense AND defense and hopefully a good mentor to our kindergartners

Deng wasn't restricted.

Harkless is all about his intangible impact - he does the stuff that won't show up in the box score, but helps his team win.

Now Deng, OTOH, if he's not scoring, what does he bring to the court?

Leadership and someone that has been through almost anything these young guys will face this season as far as situations within a game. He can teach and he can also contribute while the young guys run the show.
