Haven't kept up with this thread, so my apologies, but if we have a 2nd rounder, which targets are we looking at?
Luke Kornet
Aleksandar Vezenkov (again)
Josh Hart (think he works his way up into 1st round)
Justin Jackson
Jessie Govan
Malik Pope?
Star Wars?
Whatever happened to Malik Pope? I remember you (or maybe it was some other posters) were high on him a couple of years ago, but looks like he struggled last year and fell off the radar. Is he still a potential target in the 2nd round?

if we somehow got a top 3 pick, I'd take Lonzo Ball without a second thought. Lonzo/DLO starting with Clarkson off the bench would have our guard rotation set for a decade.
Lonzo and DLO can both play the one, but Lonzo probably has better vision and playmaking ability while DLO has the superior scoring ability. Plus Lonzo is 6'6 which is good size for either guard position.
It's easy to say that, but I don't think Luke will think much of Lonzo's jumpshot. Dude shoots left to right.
But does it go in?
He shoots it like Kevin Martin, ugly and quick.
But does it go in?
This is getting naughty...
Also, fwiw, Ball is up to #4 in the DraftExpress mock.
If you read his stat-line, he should be #2. He has been Jason Kidd since he was a junior in HS. Only concern right now is the easy competition, but he fits absolutely perfectly into what the Lakers are doing right now.
I also think he's a complement to Russell's talent on the offensive end. Switchable on defense.
Was thinking of ways Lakers can get a mid first pick to draft Lonzo last week. That was before I realize he has shot up the draft board. Don't think we're keeping the pick this year.

I like Star Wars (George Lucas) for our 2nd round pick. He might be the next Andre Roberson.
Disagree. Two different types of players.
Roberson was all athlete, no skills.
Star Wars isn't the best athlete... but..
Some of the skills are starting to show.
what's the deal with the defense in those clips - is weakside help d illegal? haven't seen driving lanes this open my whole life.
It's poor level of competition. I was just admiring that he was able to complete drives with good finishes at the hoop. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

A great scouting report on Markelle Fultz performance so far and why he might be the best PG prospect since Kyrie Irving (link):
Quote:
Washington freshman Markelle Fultz has everything NBA teams are looking for in a point guard. It doesn’t take long to see why he’s considered the early front-runner to be the no. 1 overall pick in the 2017 draft. He’s big, he’s fast, he can shoot and pass the ball, and he has a good feel for the game. He has hit the ground running in college, averaging 22.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists a game on 54 percent shooting in his first seven games.
I haven't really been blown away by anyone in this draft, yet. I don't see why it's considered so deep.
Agreed, outside of Fultz it seems like an average year. I guess it will be OK to finally cede our pick to the Process this year.
Mitch and Ryan should be able to work their magic with our second rounder.
I don't think Fultz game will transfer well to the NBA. I'd pass on him at 1
I keep hearing people compare him to kyrie but he doesn't have the quickness or ballhandling kyrie has.
He makes them, but his shot selection is horrible and I doubt that he can get these same looks at the NBA level. He's shifty, smooth, and creative but frankly he doesn't create a lot of space for himself on his attempts and NBA defenders will make up the difference.
The Reason that DLO and ball are better prospects is simply IQ and shot selection IMO.

I really don't mean this in any disrespectful way, but I see Fultz as a PG IQ version of Eric Gordon.
Gets to the line. Big upper body. Advanced, but not elite level of ball-handling. Good burst. Good speed. Not exactly an elite athlete. Highly effective scorer. Loves to use spin moves around the the painted area to create shots around the basket. Uses contact. Creates space. Just an unreal level of defense, playmaking, and shooting. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
Gotta question. What do ya'll think of Dwayne Bacon?
For some reason he's considered a real late 1st round pick, I think that underrates him. He's averaging 16/4 on 49% from the field and 40% from the three point line. He stayed in college an extra year as he said he wanted/needed to work on his jump shot and his jumper off the dribble. Was a 28% three point shooter last year, thus far is a 40% three point shooter this year, so that speaks to his work ethic. He had a near 6'10 wingspan back in 2013 so I'd only assume it's there now, and he's a 6'7 shooting guard.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because there looks like at least 8-10 prospects in this draft that I would have taken after Ingram and before Jaylen Brown in last year's mediocre draft (Fultz I rank on par with Ingram behind Simmons): Josh Jackson is a better defender, rebounder, and passer than Brown; Fox is a younger, better version of Dunn; Monk is nearly on par with Murray as a shooter, but is a much better athlete with defensive upside; and so on.
The 2017 draft doesn't have a generational talent to headline the class, but the quality in the lottery is on par with that of 2015 excluding KAT - it's just that this class will be point guard heavy where 2015 was loaded with bigs. It would be an excellent draft in which to have even a late lottery pick, but the Lakers have to pay the piper eventually, and this is almost assuredly the year they pay up.
