Zubac isn't ready yet. Bigs unless 'special' take longer to come around than wings even do.
We've got him going at a pretty good pace right now, we should keep bringing him along precisely like we have been. Patience is a cuss word nowadays, but "well we been spoiled!" is no longer an excuse. Time to stop playing Checkers and Play Chess along with the Lakers.

But I remember Bynum has some playing time in the beginning of his rookie season too.
21 points again in the DLeague. Which is expected. I'm more curious to see how his defense grows from game to game _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Someone said we needed a Tony Allen? He could be that guy. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though."
Ivica Zubac Q&A: Catching Up With The Lakers Rookie
Quote:
Ivica Zubac quickly became a fan favorite when the Los Angeles Lakers drafted him with their 32nd pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. From his endearing accent, jovial demeanor and genuine love for the Lakers it was easy for the 7’1 Croatian center to find his way into fans hearts. At just 19 years old and needing time to develop, Zubac has been spending time with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, where he’s averaging 16.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
That soft touch Marc Gasol killed us with last night? Hopefully that turns into Zubac _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though."
Zubac is 3 for 6 from 3 in 6 games so far in the DLeague. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though."
I would encourage everyone to not get enamored with his d-league numbers. We all know how that turned out with Ryan "I'm prime Amare Stoudemire in the D-league" Kelly. Focus on the things that are translatable right now -- things like screen setting, running the PnR, running the floor, spacing the floor, etc. These are some of the things that will translate immediately. That he's able to space the floor and hit threes is pretty big right now. He should be getting burn right now, if not for his shot alone. That's an upgrade over whatever Tarik is currently doing on the floor.

He probably takes over for Tarik next year, or if Tarik is traded.
But now, Tarik brings a different element than Moz, i.e., mobility. Zub still doesn't have that. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Good attitude by Zubac. This is what we were saying preseason, that he'd need more reps with the DLeague. With Black/Nance possibly out, now he can get some reps with the NBA team, having got some playing time and rhythm with the Defenders. Working out nicely.
Quote:
"I wasn't playing anything with the Lakers, so it's better to stay [in the D-League] and get some minutes," Zubac said. "They wanted me to work on my game and stay in shape ... [coach] told me at the end of the year, he wants me to be five times better individually than I was at the beginning of the season."
Zubac helped the D-Fenders improve to 7-3, averaging 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds over six games. The 19-year-old even hit half of his six three-point attempts, along with a few of his signature move, the sky hook.
