Depends what he meant by great. If he meant Kobe or Shaq great then of course we don't have anyone near that talent level.

That is what he means. He says we have a lot of guys who can become really good players, but the guys who really separate the good teams from the great are the ones you look at and just go, this kid is going to be special... and you can usually see that pretty early on. That's why people are high on KAT and Porzingis. Not that DLo isn't eventually going to become an all-star caliber player. Not that he's a bust, or he's not any good. But the projections for those other guys are limitless. DLo has a pretty visible ceiling, because you can point to a bunch of guys currently in the league right now who are really good but still not considered tops players in the league, and we're counting our blessings if he ever gets close to that level.

Right now Laker fans are just looking for any signs of talent to drag us out of the cellar. I do believe we have that, and I think most intelligent people around the league and media believe we have that as well. But what comes next? Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan are all stars, yet the Raptors don't have a prayer of winning the championship unless Lebron gets hit by a truck and Steph Curry loses his leg in a boating accident. The real James Harden most likely isn't getting back to the finals ever again unless the Warriors' team plane crashes. What's the ceiling for a guy who's "like that but not quite as good"?

Of course, there is always the Dumb and Dumber chance that we have guys that will break through their projected ceilings and become all-time greats and top players in the league. But at some point they're going to start showing signs before it happens, and that hasn't happened yet. Until they do, there's no reason for people who don't have an invested in the team, ala homers and fans, to get excited for them, because there are plenty of other teams in similar situations.

I love KAT and think Porky is good, but not sure even those guys will reach the rarified air Barkley was mentioning. But too soon to tell for all these 19-20 year olds.

Barkley hasn't seen Zubac play yet!

Zubac is actually Barkleys type of player. Wouldn't surprise me if Barkley becomes a big fan of him in a few years.

Same guy who said the Warriors can't win with their style of play.

Same guy who said the Knicks will make the playoffs last season.

Same guy who can't tell which team a player plays for which TNT has a actual segment making fun of him for it.

To be fair the first point the only reason GS won was due to other teams having injury..

They went 73-9 last season and lost the championship by four points in game seven.

They lost because Bogut got injured.

Shhh...it doesn't fit the narrative.

Actually I think the Cavs would be 2 time defending champions if Kyrie/Love hadn't gotten injured in 2015. Don't see how it relates much to this topic though.

Listen, as much as I'm a DLO fan, rookie/2nd year Steph looked far and way better than DLO does now. I know because I saw him play in person. Plenty of people saw Steph as good, he was just buried on a terrible Warriors team that still considered Monta to be their first option.

These old school greats always seem to be hung up on the notion of "the killer" player being a necessity to do anything in this league. I agree that it helps, but it's not a deal breaker just as it's not a guarantee of team success. Barkley and Reggie should know that last part first-hand, although I'm sure they just blame it on Jordan.

Steph also had 3 years in college. Age-wise, his rookie year is the equivalent of 2 years from now for DLo

That starting five was pretty weak -- the undersized Curry/Ellis backcourt, and then a murderer's row of Reggie Williams, Anthony Tolliver, and Chris Hunter. Goes to show what a good job they did building that team.

And Curry's only developed into the greatest shooter in NBA history and a two-time MVP. I'd be ecstatic if Russell makes a few All-Star games.
