Which is a huge difference. Some coaches have a set vision on what they want and some players just dont match that vision ala Luke Walton and Westbrook. |
Would you rather cut Hoiberg or trade a top 15 player?
Most teams elect to keep the latter. |
Depends how much I value the coach. Like if I had Luke Walton vs Westbrook, I keep Walton over westbrook without any question. Also, Hoiberg's offense has never looked anything similar to the vision he gave Chicago because of the roster.
Roster/personnel are key to success like Mike D's offense. Need the right guys to make it work. Butler could be an outlier from what Hoiberg wants... |
Hoiberg is a really underwhelming coach. I wouldn't put him in any rarified status.
You easily keep Butler over Hoiberg. Chicago FO screwed up with the Hoiberg hiring, then signing FAs that absolutely do not work with Hoiberg (Wade + Rondo). Butler isn't the problem. |
Or you can rebuild from the bottom up, rather than be a treadmill team for all of his career.
If we get our pick, I bet Bulls will bite with the option for Hoiberg to start the team brand new with either Ball, Fultz or DSJ. |
So the FO brought in all the wrong types of players for Hoiberg (Wade/Rondo) but they will trade their unquestionably best player to NOW all of a sudden build a Hoiberg centric team?
Um no. |
Yeap. The front office is essentially realizing they F up with signing Wade and Rondo. Even with all 3, they are 8th place in the eastern conference.
Also, it's always easier for a young coach to teach young players and for them to commit to their vision.
Bulls have no chance of anything in the eastern conference with Butler and company. However, they start fresh with draft picks and rebuild, they can actually be relevant when Lebron gets old...
First round pick this season + Kings first round pick (top 10 protected)
Another lottery pick in 2018
+ Wiggins or Lavine and WOlves lottery pick, etc.
Bulls would have a better future than |

1 - I doubt Bulls are shopping Butler. If they are breaking the team up, it makes more sense to try to move Rondo, Wade, etc., first. Rebuilding while holding on to the contracts of 35 year olds takes forever - ask the Lakers.
2 - Lakers don't move DLO or Ingram if they are keeping Luke as HC. You move 'tweeners like Randle & Clarkson - but only for pieces that absolutely fit. In the Lakers' position, you get rid of what isn't part of your system and only add what fits.
3 - don't go crazy for pieces that aren't exactly what we want. Average teams pick up pieces that they can in hopes of incremental change, but the formula for NBA success is pretty basic. Get one of the top-5 players in the league (or two of the top 10) and build around them. If you don't get one in the draft, trade/sign one, but don't add contracts/pieces that won't help you get that top 5 player.
Butler is a good player - but not top-5 - and I don't think he fits what Luke is trying to do.
I'm still hopeful about DLO and Ingram - I think both of them can be top-10 players. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns". |

Clarkson and Nance I'd be willing to trade. Can't imagine anymore than that unless it's trash/fillers. |

How old is Jimmy Butler? (edit: Just looked it up, 27 years old)
He is an interesting player, I would like to have him on the team if we could somehow get him.
I like his ability to defend and make the tough plays. He would be a nice upgrade defensively. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

but if he was the vet and face of the franchise....he would be selecting the music for shoot arounds....and everyone knows Jimmy loves his Country Music...not sure Rascal Flatts would work to get DLo and JC in a rhythm. |

You'd want to add Butler to our young core, not use him as a replacement. I don't see how either team would be willing to make that deal. _________________ Not a legend |

I like butler but I'm not trading any of Russell, Ingram or Randle. Anyway lakers have been reportedly saying no on the trio. So I don't think this is even a possibility. |

Okc made the playoffs in DUrant's 3rd year, westbrook's 2nd year, and ibaka/harden's rookie year.
Warriors made the playoffs in Klay's second year, Green's rookie year, and CUrry's fourth year.
(In a more difficult western conference)
Patience is one thing, but in a conference like the west, where most of the up and coming teams are young, it's going to be hard to make the playoffs with the same core guys unless the FO takes some risks. |

We still need that go to guy down the stretch. Dlo so far has the personality but not sure if he's shown the ability *so far* to be that closer. He's also our pg and his role typically consists of setting others up, not necessarily being the closer. Ingram has the ability, not sure about the personality to be the closer/goto guy. Butler can be that guy. I wouldn't trade any of our core, jules dlo or ingram, but anyone else without a doubt I would. |

yes lets gut the entire roster of all our young drafted players for a "very good" player who isn't even an mvp candidate & probably never will be one. |

trading everything we just started building for one player? Doesn't sound right to me. Butler seems to be an above average player but I have a not so good feeling about him and team chemistry. |

Nothing will make you appreciate Mitch Kupchak more than seeing some the "brilliant" trade ideas that people on LG come up with. |

I seriously think that article by SD was to set up for a potential Butler or Cousins trade, you need a voice to tell the NBA how good the Lakers core is and that helps in trade negotiations. |

yeah, Jimmy still wears cowboy boots sometimes....think he wore them often when he first got in league. He is from Houston...maybe he was just not a fan of Paul Wall, Lil' Troy DJ Screw, and "purple drank" |
