Oakley has had major issues with security in Vegas. Has this been mentioned yet on ESPN or in any articles? This situation actually seems really tame compared to some previous incidents which happened in Vegas.

Quote:
Oakley said he consequently left the pool and was returning to his room when he was attacked by at least five security guards in a "gang style beat down," according to the lawsuit.

The complaint contends that the guards wrestled Oakley to the ground and punched and handcuffed him and that he was taken to the hospital with injuries to his neck, back, head and wrist, "all or some of which may be permanent and disabling."

Quote:
He began pushing the security guards, forcing them to restrain him, according to the counterclaim.

Aria employees also say Oakley threw a bystander's $2,500 camera in the pool because he didn't want the man to take his picture.

Quote:
Hotel officials said Oakley instead began punching, biting, kicking and spitting on the Aria employees, who again tried to restrain him.

If any of this is true then wow.

Quote:
Those security officers have responded with a detailed countersuit against Oakley, claiming he's attacked casino workers at least three times over the past six years, only to avoid arrest because of his VIP status.

Quote:
Oakley, according to the legal documents, kicked, punched and bit two hotel security guards, elbowing two in the face, spitting on one and using obscenities.

Quote:

Other incidents documented Oakley punching a Bellagio Security Supervisor in the face in 2005.

Sending another Bellagio worker to the emergency room with a 1/2 inch cut above his right eye in 2006 after throwing a handful of craps table dice at the employee.

Good thing we didn't sign Oakley. Headcase and because he wanted money, he got no rings.

Quote:
A brief history of Charles Oakley's feud with the New York KnicksFILE
If you’re looking for the moment things turned sour between former Knicks forward Charles Oakley — one of the most beloved members of the 1990s contenders — and team ownership before Wednesday night’s altercation at Madison Square Garden, it’s hard to pinpoint just one thing.

But look at what Oakley told WFAN’s Boomer & Carton nearly two years ago to the day of the melee:

Oakley said … that he knew Dolan’s father, Charles, but never met the man who took control of Madison Square Garden in 1999. Last year at the All-Star festivities in New Orleans, Oakley had an opportunity to finally come face to face with James Dolan. He was introduced by basketball power broker William Wesley, but it’s unclear whether it could be classified as a meeting, because Oakley said Dolan wouldn’t acknowledge his presence.

“He wouldn’t turn around and talk to me,” Oakley said. “He wouldn’t even look me in the eye.”

“He said (that) I said something in the paper 15 years ago,” Oakley said. “I even asked the commissioner to set up a meeting. I said we’ll get all the articles. I said, ‘What have I said?’ … I’ll come on the air and clear it up.”

Madison Square Garden Executive Chairman James Dolan reacts to an altercation between the Charles Oakley and security guards during the first half of an NBA basketball game between the New York Knicks and the LA Clippers, Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, in New York. Oakley did admit he called out the Knicks for signing Amar’e Stoudemire in 2010, which caused some problems with then-president Donnie Walsh.

Here’s more from The Daily News a day later on the Oakley-Dolan relationship:

For all the blood, sweat and tears Charles Oakley sacrificed while wearing a Knicks uniform, the former enforcer has no love lost for owner James Dolan, calling the Garden chairman “a bad guy” Wednesday.

Oakley said he had been “quiet for a while” on his feud with Dolan. Not anymore.

“As hard as I played for that [expletive], and he don’t want to talk with me?” Oakley barked.

And it sounds like he’s been trying to fix whatever was between the two since that first meeting:

Oakley said his relationship with Dolan soured to the point that Oakley tried to broker a meeting with the volatile Knicks owner through NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

“I asked the commissioner to set up a meeting with (Dolan), take a step forward,” said Oakley. “I want to know what I did to be hated so bad by an owner. The dad (Charles Dolan), I never heard him say nothing bad about me. I asked players I played with to go talk with (James Dolan). He said he don’t want to deal with me.” …

“He’s a billion-dollar guy. He own the team,” said Oakley. “But fans are the ones that pay your bills. When I was here I treated people with respect, the writers, everybody. How can I be that bad?”

That’s the question Knicks fans and current NBA stars seem to be asking after how Oakley was treated on Wednesday.

Yeah, he's a bad man. Hilarious to me that the media coverage has probably been 90% against the Knicks in this incident.

LeBron said tonight "one more thing...Charles Oakley for president." He makes himself look like a damn fool when he says stuff like that.

If the Knicks did't play in Manhattan would anybody really care about them? We have Phil driving this crazy train into the abyss and a former Knick totally losing it in front of everyone to see....oh, and the Knicks are playing forgettable NBA basketball once again.

Oak said he didn't say anything to Dolan. He said he was approached by security and told they had orders to ask him to leave. That's when things got out of hand. He said security has been following him around the garden for years, even when he went to the bathroom.

Charles said he's been trying to meet with Dolan for years to discuss how the organization treated NY vets. He hasn't been able to.

Oakley is a New Yorker with a voice known to many. He seems to be speaking for many of them. They want Phil Jackson gone, Camelo Anthony to stay. Spike Lee, New York's #1 fan said he'd pack Phil's bags for him.

I'm not a Jim Buss fan but if he was instrumental in not hiring Phil seems like he made the right decision. Great coach, horrible GM.
Funny you would mention that. I was just listening to SAS, who so obsessively hate on Jim Buss that even Captain Ahab think it's unhealthy, just said the same thing. That if Jim Buss was responsible for Phil not being in the Lakers FO, then he should get major props.

If NYK fans still believe that Melo is getting them anywhere, they won't like any GM who replaces Phil.

Yeah I don't get it either I mean I get being anti Knicks(I'm a Pacers fan after all) but I really don't get what is so hard to believe about a dude acting a fool and being escorted out as a result. If it were you and me it would've probably been a lot worse and we wouldn't be nearly as sympathetic in comparison. Unless there's more to this story this seems rather simple to me.

Also makes the anti violence stance LeBron, CP3 and Wade had back at the ESPY's appear rather foolish right now.

Also got into it with security after he was denied access to the Cavs locker room when the Cavs won Game 7 of the Finals.

Much bigger narrative that you're missing.

It's "Out-Of-Touch-Billionaire-Who-Made-His-Money-By-Inheriting-It" against "Lunch-Pail-Guy-Who-Did-The-Grunt-Work-And-Left-Everything-On-The-Court."

Oakley is a definite nut case - but he was also a fan fave for his work ethic. If he came to the Garden and spewed invective at Dolan & Phil non-stop, the POV of Knicks fans is: "GREAT! Someone NEEDS to tell them about themselves!"

Dolan's dad basically invented cable sports programming and built an empire. Jimmy Dolan took over the sports teams from his dad in 1999 and they have not won squat. The Rangers have been up-and-down, but the Knicks have mostly stunk. The fans blame Jimmy, look at him as an inept loser and they want him out of the basketball operation entirely.

I'm not surprised the fans are siding with Oakley....while he may have lost it with the security guards, I'm sure it doesn't look too good when he sends his hired goons to take care of him and escort him out of the building. This guy is supposed to be one of their legends and this is the way they treat him. If this is the way they treat somebody who busted their ass for the franchise, do you think Dolan cares about the fans? Not one damn bit. So while Oakley doesn't come out of this smelling like roses neither does the owner.

And I get this believe me I do but if Oakley is acting a fool on national TV no less what did he expect? If it was some random joe I doubt there would be nearly as much sympathy. Or some random Knicks scrub its not as if this is the first time he's had a dustup with security guards.

Seriously. The guy has had problems with authority for a really long time. Just ask employees of the Aria and the Bellagio in Vegas. I get it that Dolan is a nincompoop. Fine. I'm not arguing that he's been a horrible owner. But this reaction of people has been remarkable to me. It's Oakley who is in the wrong in this particular situation, not the other way around. Although if they were more PR-savvy, they could've handled the aftermath a bit better, sure. I will grant that. But Oakley caused the situation. All this stuff from D Wade like "it could happen to anyone" is utter garbage. Um, no, 99.9% of us wouldn't physically put our hands on police or security personnel.

After the Oakley deal fell through, the Lakers picked up 36 year old AC Green a few days later which worked out well, despite not being the ideal way to go. Ron Harper signed about a month later and I remember when some people on USENET weren't too thrilled that the team had gotten old overnight.

He has acted like the Suge Knight of hoops for years and he still does. He usually wins thru intimidation. I've only seen Barkley mess with him (he dismissively smacked Oak's cheek that one time, Oak didn't like that). That says a lot -- Chuck being a dude who spat on a kid and threw a guy though a window and pelted Shaq's dome with the ball. Oak said something recently to the effect that Barkley wasn't a fighter or fakey, etc. If Chuck's credentials in that dep't aren't solid, then no one's is. Hate him all you want, but he would get Alabama stoopid with anybody. I was watching Hot Shots recently and there was a bar fight that included a 2 sec cameo of Barkley fighting with Laimbeer. Chuck was on meme status for fighting. I was wondering how much they got paid because it was literally an amusing flash of them choking each other.

I think a lot of people only know Barkley from his current role as talking head, doofus, clown, mommas boy. Its hard to see thru his current image to his player days.

http://nba.nbcsports.com/2017/02/13/after-james-dolan-charles-oakley-meet-together-with-adam-silver-oakley-invited-back-to-msg/

Quote:
After James Dolan, Charles Oakley meet together with Adam Silver, Oakley invited back to MSG

Apparently what James Dolan needed was an adult in the room. Or a couple of adults, one on the phone.

In the wake of Knicks legend Charles Oakley being thrown out of a Knicks game last week and being arrested after a scuffle with security guards — a situation where the Knicks’ owner looked petty and lost in public perception after saying this was all on Oakley and the former player may have a drinking problem — the two men got called to the principal’s office, er… NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s office. Then they got Michael Jordan on the phone.

Silver released this statement.

“It is beyond disheartening to see situations involving members of the NBA family like the one that occurred at Madison Square Garden this past week. In an effort to find a path forward, New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan, Charles Oakley, and I met today at the league office, along with Michael Jordan, who participated by phone.

“Both Mr. Oakley and Mr. Dolan were apologetic about the incident and subsequent comments, and their negative impact on the Knicks organization and the NBA. Mr. Dolan expressed his hope that Mr. Oakley would return to MSG as his guest in the near future.

“I appreciate the efforts of Mr. Dolan, Mr. Oakley and Mr. Jordan to work towards a resolution of this matter.”

Translated: This looked bad for the league so I forced a detente.

Oakley will be brought back to the Garden soon, which was really the only outcome where Dolan didn’t look like a complete… you fill in the derogatory term of choice. There are a lot that fit. I like that Silver stepped in and called on the big gun in Jordan to get this worked out. Oakley doesn’t have to like Dolan (just like most Knicks fans) and Dolan doesn’t have to like Oakley, but at least be civil. It’s not that hard.

You could tell by Oakley's body language and demeanor that he was being overly aggressive. Now, reading those Vegas incidents only clarifies that. I can think of very few occasions where you can justify pointing your finger on someone else's face and proceeding to shove them; Oak acted out of line imo. Unless Dolen insulted his mother or called him some racial slur, there's no reason to behave like that.
