You don't get the full extent of it. They don't want to deregulate everything. They just want to deregulate the stuff that keeps them from doing what they want. They want government regulation to keep the market from actually becoming competitive. As a right wing friend of mine likes to say (quite correctly), if government didn't exist, big business would create it.
Because we can't afford to do it. Bernie is big on spending massive amounts of money that we don't have. So Bernie tells us, don't worry, my programs will create so much growth that everything will be fine. That's voodoo economics, left wing style.
Not only that, but education has become a freaking racket because of government intervention in the form of guaranteed student loans. Because the government provided all of the "free" money, colleges figured out that they could jack up their tuition and make kids borrow it. Even worse, we got a whole industry of fake colleges (I'm a Phoenix!) handing out worthless degrees (Didn't Snaq get a Ph.D.?) that kids can hang on the wall of their parent's basement as they try to figure out how to pay off all of the debt.
So now you want government to get deeper into higher education? Pass.

Who is this "we" you are referring to? Anyway, most people recognize that Bernie is a man of good character. That doesn't mean that he is qualified to be president, and it doesn't mean that his policies aren't idiotic.
What Bernie did was capture a theme that appealed to a lot of people. Heck, the theme appealed to me. I never liked Hillary. The silver lining of the current fiasco (and it is only a slight silver lining) is that Hillary and the Democratic establishment got reminded that they don't own us. |

3. the guy who knew both #1 and #2 were the problem and those like them. this guy was willing to say what needed to be said and attempt with our help to do what needed to be done. which was take back some of our slices of american pie that was stolen from us by the people in that above article.

Sadly for Bernie, most of us didn't see it that way. We saw #3 as a socialist with unrealistic, unworkable ideas that would lead to financial ruin while handing out freebies to the gullible.

Do you understand that property taxes don't go to the federal government? Anyway, if your solution to the education mess is to tax Ivy League schools so that we can provide free tuition at junior colleges, that's the sort of idea that drove millions of us to vote for Hillary over Bernie. |

If your browser has an "incognito" mode or a "private window" mode you can open the link in that and it doesn't count on the amount of free articles you can read in a given time. I've tried it on Washington Post after I reached the limit. And it worked for me.
