Correction, there are NOT free agents so they didn't miss out on them.

All are under contract.

Cousins was moved.....Lakers were smart to not pursue.

Butler is staying for now, as is George.

So, Lakers are not firing blanks.

It would be stupid, for example, to get rid of all your young talent and picks for George when in a year and a half, he could come here outright. The Lakers FO need to continue to help the young players grow and maybe try another trade or free agent signing in the summer coupled with a good draft pick or two.

Thats how you do it right..

With our Lakers firing blanks at the free agent targets, what's next? Well it is safe to say that we in the hands of ping pong balls, and with a 15% chance at grabbing the No.1 pick it is not a bad idea to start thinking about what we could do with it, the first thought that pops into my mind is Westbrook, yes I said it Westbrook, why? because the Thunder will be in the same situation they were last year, only now their team is no longer an elite playoff team, now they are mediocre at best, what does this mean for the Lakers, Westbrook has emotional connection to L.A.

http://www.latimes.com/business/realestate/hot-property/la-fi-hotprop-russell-westbrook-house-20151207-story.html

He is from here, played at UCLA and its highly possible that Magic would consider shipping that No.1 and 27th pick along with probably Jordan Clarkson to the Thunder in exchange for Westbrook (provided he agreed to sign a long term deal), this same formula works with George, only we probably wont need to add the 27th since they don't play in our rivaled conference, and there is another factor that should be considered WE CANT MISS OUT ON EVERY SUPERSTAR FREE AGENT ALL THE TIME

exactly

Is the bolded serious? A superstar in the hand is worth 100 draft picks in the bush. Especially when the chances are that we do not get that draft pick. So you pass on a superstar for a chance to win the lottery?

As for the OP, we continue to develop the young players and they try to win every game they can. Then we re-assess things in the offseason.

not sure this year....I am of the opinion that Fultz and Jackson will be All Stars....and most people are very confident about Ball. And no, it is not the same every year....alot of top analyst were not sure Simmons or Ingram could be a star last year. A few guys really look like damn near cant miss guys this year......with about 1o guys that have at least that All Star ceiling potential in them.

hopefully dlo and ingram improves enough to be #1 and #2 option and advance to allstar level in the next year or 2. We could trade the #3 pick for PG13 if Pacers willing to resign and trade him. We could also just keep the pick and develop the player. But after that, no more tanking..get as much talent to make a playoff push.

You'd make a good PR for the Lakers. They just fired Black.

Meanwhile, in the Tank-Lab, Lakers just traded away Lou for more of those picks in the bush. But I get your message bro, gotta keep up the appearance.

If you would prefer a draft pick over a superstar then you need to go nowhere near a FO.

2 years ago, many of us said in this forum all we wanted was a plan...a direction. We have one now...we are a couple years into a rebuild, and we stepped on the rebuild commitment gas this season. We all said we knew it would take a while, but it would be worth it....as long as we had a plan and could see progress.

I still believe that....losing sucks....but this is about getting our next 3-5 banners.

You put it in black and white terms and no one can beat you in an argument. But it's not black and white, and that's why there are threads going in circles.

Lakers just traded away 6th man of the year for a late first round pick. So in your simplistic view, our management have no business being in the business?

same thing that was happening before. We have some talented young guys we've built through the draft. They're collecting more picks to try to build even more.

Rebuilds typically take 3-5 years. We're really still in year 1.

we keep on keeping on and see what else becomes available to build with.

We are not in year 1 of the rebuild.

in reality, yes we are
NOTHING, absolutely nothing, done during Randle's wasted broken leg year or during the final year of the KFT disaster were helping with a rebuild. Yeah, we got picks, but other than that - nothing

Have to continue the tank and try to make a major trade in the summer. Bad teams typically shouldn't try to add stars at the trade deadline - this should be done in the summer. Bad teams are sellers at the deadline for a reason - to dump assets not part of the long term plan in exchange for pieces that can help in the future. Try to be worse and solidify draft position. This is exactly what Magic did, and it was the right move.

No reason to make a trade now for George or Butler, both of whom I view a second star players on a contending team. Cousins on the other hand...despite what I said above I probably would have made that move with any of our young core (not all) available. But that ship has obviously sailed.

Tell that to Jeannie. Because apparently Mitch and Jim lost their jobs because we're supposed to be contending.

Chronologically not. But it's actually the first year when our management commited to go further with the kids - not trading Ingram for Cousins, Mozgov and Deng theoretically were two guys who will help the kids. Practically they are two catastrophy, but that another discussion!

Good thing Paul George didn´t get traded, he´s actually the only superstar we might a shot with in the near future.

Now let´s give Russell-Clarkson-Ingram-Randle-Zubac-Ennis-Nance the majority of the minutes until the end of the season.

And Kobe got all the shots
in an ISO offense specifically designed by BScott to get Kobe all those shots
An offense that didn't move the ball at all

getting a bunch of minutes in a 1980's/1990's offense, that also didn't play any defense, didn't do our guys any favors.

I think they will get a superstar. The timing is not good right now when you are trying to pick up more asset in a top pick. They will do it in the summer. PG13 isn't going anywhere. Better to get him in the summer after the lottery.

Kobe got a lot of shots but missed 1 third of the season. All the young core we had last season got plenty of opportunity to play and shoot. Just because we had a bad coach doesn't mean it wasn't a rebuilding season. We are in year 2 or 3 of the rebuild.

I understand that most fans probably have become patient because of circumstance and I sort of agree that it is possible to build a championship caliber team in 3 to 5 years, but I don't think any team in recent history has built them in house meaning almost entirely from the draft, maybe Detroit 2004 but someone would have to check on that, I think that if we get the No.1 pick the front office will seriously consider moving it because teams will probably start calling, their front office thinking hmmm Westbrook or George walk for nothing if they refuse to sign extensions or get a 1st pick and more doing business with a team they hate, I think the will choose the lesser of two supposed evils

Jim Buss promised we'd be contending. He said he would step down if we weren't. Well, we aren't, and he wasn't stepping down. If he wasn't man enough to keep to his word, that's his problem. Him getting fired was the right move. It sucks that Mitch had to go with him, but them's the breaks and he also contributed in some capacity to the worst four year stretch in Laker history.

Again, Control what you can control, and stop waiting on someone to save us.

Just my opinion

This. Pragmatism with strategic aggressive moves is the way to go.
