This just popped up in past two days.
I can't get nydailynews.com or nytimes.com to come up. Get an error message. Everything else comes up fine. (and I try it with www and without, with the https thingy and without). This happens on Firefox, Chrome and IE. I tried rebooting (cue Chief Wiggum "Well I'm fresh out of ideas.").
Knowing nothing, I put on my Sherlock hat and wondered if the ny part of it was the problem, as when I try nymag.com, it loads but no pictures come up, it loads as if you did like a cache version. Alas, other ny websites come up fine.
I have Norton for antivirus. But that's never caused any issues before.
But again, this just started in past two days. Just a few websites. But on all browsers. Annoying, but just want to make sure it's not something really weird/wrong with computer and see if there's easy fix, as LGers have helped on other dumb-computer-guy issues in the past. thanks. |

Try changing your dns to google's
Quote: | Google Public DNS IP addresses
The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4 |
Depending on which version of windows you have it might be different. I'm going to assume you have windows 10 so here you go.
http://www.geeksquad.co.uk/articles/how-to-change-your-dns-windows-10
Restart your computer after you do. _________________ Don't let perfect be the enemy of good |

It probably has something to do with your ISP's DNS servers. Usually the problem fixes itself after a short while but sometimes you get stuck for a while like your situation. You can stick with google's DNS servers as they are most likely faster and more reliable than your ISP's. _________________ Don't let perfect be the enemy of good |

Sounds stupid but did you uninstall and reinstall the app?
Second thing I would do is go into your iphone settings and look up the app you use to read pdfs to see if there any option to reset the settings.
Other than that I'd look for another pdf reader or wait for an update. _________________ Don't let perfect be the enemy of good |

Try Avast free antivirus. I use it. I've noticed when I use Maxthon Nitro I get a lot of virus alerts. They're blocked. I'm not enamored with Google Chrome it stops responding a lot. Maybe your browser is a part of the problem. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

His problem isn't antivirus related though, dns/ip related. Plus antivirus software is becoming more and more obsolete. I would even advise against having one as it is a huge resource hog and annoying to boot. A combination of something like adblock and malware-bytes is more than enough.
Also chrome is fine. Just disable all the notifications, don't add unnecessary extensions, etc and you should be fine.
The best protection against malware is common sense:
*A lot of free software come pre-loaded with a lot of bloatware and most people won't even blink cliking yes yes yes
*Watch and research what you're installing before you install it _________________ Don't let perfect be the enemy of good |

he could have edited his hosts file without changing his DNS. If google is not his fastest dns server you actually could be slowing down his internet speed. _________________ LA Sports Fans Forum |

also stop giving people the illusion that they shouldnt run a antivirus program.
the free version of malwarebytes (the vast majority uses) doesnt do jack (bleep).

Nerd fight!
I know Norton's disliked by a lot of much, much smarter computer people than me but for me, it's always been good, I've never noticed it slowing computer and it gives peace of mind to a "computer for dummies" guy like myself. Even if it's the equivalent of a placebo effect.
And NPZ, you know the filthiest thing I watch is Worthy abusing some fool down on the block. |

I had malware. I uninstalled it. It blocked thing I wanted to download. I had to go to the site type in allow the url in order to download many things. It may be good but it's a nuisance.
I like avast. I get a lot of alerts and blocks but no interruptions. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
