Pretty sure there isn't a 2nd or 3rd unit that could guard Lou Williams either

Besides you'll have

Deng/Ingram
Nance Jr
Tarik Black/Zubac

At the 3/4/5 which is pretty solid defensive backup for the 1/2 situation

You've got to exert some defensive pressure from the guard spots and our likeliest best guard defender is DLO.

And he'll be in the 1st unit

While the 2nd unit will be backed up defensively by Ingram/Deng as well as Larry Nance Jr and Tarik Black. So that's pretty good defensive backup for going against 2nd units, and in the 1st unit we have Russell and even still Deng or Ingram at the 3 and Mozgov at the 5. So we have some nice defensive spots to 'cover' for as of right now. Not all-NBA, but nice to solid.

The "we'll trust others to play defense for us" defense isn't appealing at all.

I just hope that Calderon/Lou are staggered with DLO/JC.

I hope BI gets minutes at the 2

He will according to Luke:

Luke wrote:
"I see him being able to play multiple positions for us with that length; the 2-spot, 3-spot, even the 4-spot once he gets stronger so we’re very excited about him."

http://www.lakersnation.com/luke-walton-sees-brandon-ingram-playing-multiple-positions-for-lakers/2016/07/18/

Just my opinion but in the ideal setup, AB and BI get minutes at the 2, while Clarkson backs up the 1 and 2 as the sixth man. This would mean Lou gets phased out of the rotation and Huertas/Calderon see spot minutes depending on the match-ups. It just works better defensively and Ingram presents far more match-up problems than Lou. If we're worried about his scoring, take comfort in the fact that he was one of the most efficient isolation players in college (even more efficient than Durant). Still trying to figure out how Luke is going to utilize Lou without running into defensive problems.

FWIW, GS tends to not play anyone smaller than Steph Curry for defensive reasons and it's worked out pretty well for them. Shaun Livingston started alongside Klay when Steph was out during the Rockets series. Their ideal defensive line-up was Livingston/Klay/Barnes/Green/Bogut. With the exception of Bogut, all of those guys could switch without being exploited defensively.

He played well. Kept the ball alive with his passing and hustle.

His defense was less than spectacular but that can be expected.

Overall he has had a good tournament. Averaging 10.4 points and 6.6 assists per game.

Huertas Key for Brazil In Victory Over Nigeria

Quote:
Huertas racked up 12 points, six rebounds and 11 assists, directing the high-flying Brazilians to an 86-69 victory over Nigeria.

The captain of Brazil (2-3), Huertas stepped up when the Nigerians came within in striking distance of an upset. The Rio hosts led by six midway through the fourth quarter before Huertas took the game into his own hands.

*Brazil has been eliminated

I wish Huertas didn't start the season injured last year. Maybe BS wouldn't have had to play Lou at the backup PG spot so often. Maybe.

Marcelo Huertas could be odd man out in crowded backcourt

Quote:
Marcelo Huertas made the leap to the NBA and even earned a second contract with the Lakers, but could have a hard time finding the court in his sophomore season.

Marcelo Huertas could be playing his way into the primary backup point guard role

The Catalyst impressed during the first week of training camp.

Quote:
Most of the roles for the Los Angeles Lakers appeared fairly set in stone heading into training camp. Barring something insane or an injury, D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Luol Deng, Julius Randle, and Timofey Mozgov look locked in as starters.

On the bench, second overall pick Brandon Ingram would seem to be guaranteed most of the backup minutes on the wing, while sophomore forward Larry Nance, Jr. certainly earned the primary backup four role with his pleasantly surprising play last season. Lou Williams’ special brand of efficient gunning should be more than enough to slot him in as the backup two.

All of that leaves camp to figure out the fringes of the roster, as well as the battles for backup center and point guard minutes. The latter is intriguing because of the two different skill sets in play.

Considering a lot of players speak highly of him I'm sure most GMs value him the same way.

Ciao Huertas.... For an actual goodbye thread though... Head over to clutchfans... Houston took it a lot harder than the Lakers did to lose you... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php?threads/marcelo-huertas-appreciation-thread.280810/

Rockets make it official and waive guard Marcelo Huertas. Rockets traded for Huertas in the Tyler Ennis deal with the Lakers.

It was a big miss. Seth Curry was one of the dudes I talked about in the FA thread last year, but we all know the FO was dead set on guys like Huertas, Deng, Mozgov... never made any sense to me, but that's why Magic is here. That's why I'm okay with the regime change. FO didn't have a clue.

Dallas be stealing all them cost effective players (Ferrell, Curry). Have a feeling Quinn Cook will turn out alright for them. Lakers gotta invest in some d-league talent.
