This will be an interesting trade deadline for the league with the expansion draft looming. The Kings cannot afford to give up their first rounders again. Their farm system is barren with few reinforcements in the minors and some big money contracts as albatrosses on the team. Dean will have his work cut out for him. |

Sutter just tied Andy Murray for most wins in Kings history for coaches. Amazing how Andy could coach NHL hockey before turning full-time to the ATP Tennis Tour. |

Kings acquire Tampa's stud Netminder Ben Bishop for G Peter Budaj, top prospect D-man Erik Cernak, and a couple picks.
Lombardi mortgaging some long term for short term again.
Not gonna question him, he's gotten us 2 cups in 5 years so I'll roll with it.
Maybe Quickie's not 100% yet, though he looked stellar yesterday against the Ducks.
Kings now have the best goalie in the league (Price ain't bad either) and a top 5 maybe top 8 goalie in the world as his back-up.
Both American born BTW.
If we sneak in like we did in 2012 firing on all cylinders again, good luck NHL...

^^Yea I agree on Budaj being a product of our system as well. That said I do think he played better than expected.
Though when he was off his game he was pretty damn bad.
Haven't seen goals that soft since Stephane Fiset was between the pipes.
As far as scoring is concerned I think Lombardi's not finished here, I think he'll add some scoring punch before the deadline.
That 70's line can only do so much.
Maybe make a play for a Patrick Sharpe type.
(Fingers crossed). _________________ 16 and counting.... |

It's a shame our usual drinking well aka Columbus Blue Jackets are doing well. Would've been nice to add the likes of Scott Hartnell (ex-Flyer too!), Foligno, Atkinson, or Seth Jones. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Frustrating game last night. Giving up that OT goal in 12 seconds was a blow. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I thought once it went to OT with Carts Kopi and Doughty (and Quickie now) it was over.
Kings were 10-1 this year in 3 on 3 OT games and have by far the best record since the new format took effect a couple years ago.
I was obviously wrong.
I'm the biggest Kopitar fan you'll ever talk to but it might be time for Sutter to sit him a game or drop him to the forth line for a game or two.
Even when he's right he's not a big time goal scorer but he does everything else, wins big draws, makes plays for his teammates and plays stellar defense.
When he doesn't do "everything else", it can get ugly.
He's been grossly under achieving this year since getting the C on his sweater and getting the fat contract.
If he doesn't turn it around we're not making any kind of Magical run ala 2012 this year. (top defense/top goaltending/top penalty kill or not)
Sutter sat Gabby a game and he came back and played by far his best game all year long last night, so maybe it's time Sutter does the same with Kopi. (probably not ganna happen though).
If things don't change it'll be one and done for Kopitar and the captaincy as Carter and Doughty would be the more deserving Cap. _________________ 16 and counting.... |

Two absolutely brutal losses in a row. I knew the Kings were going to lose when Muzzin's shot off the deflection with under 10 seconds left in regulation got by Elliott but was just laying there next to the goal line and didn't go in. And then I really knew we were going to lose when Carter failed to tip in a tap-in goal with a wide-open net in OT.
The team badly needs more top-6 forward talent, and Lombardi goes and trades for another goaltender. We're playing guys like Trevor Lewis on Kopitar's line. Nick Shore is playing where we once had Jarrett Stoll. The depth is just nowhere near what it once was. Oh, and we used to have 6 solid D men, and now we're trotting McNabb out there, who is dreadful, and insert-name-here as the 6th guy (LaDue, Gilbert, Gravel, whatever).
We just aren't as good. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that, in the midst of a down year, in the OT where the Kings lost almost right off the jump against the Wild, that that was probably the worst I've ever seen Kopitar look on defense. Literally the worst. He just completely lost his guy and he knew where he was the whole time and let him go right past him. It was feeble and, quite frankly, not good enough.
We're fighting an uphill battle just to make the playoffs. And it sucks, because Jeff Carter is just freaking flying around the ice. |

It's been tough watching Iggy struggle this year (I'm an Avs season ticket holder). Hopefully he plays better on a better team, and he's still pretty solid on the power play. Would be great to see him win it all. |

Knowledge of the system will help but he and Kopitar really need to gel for this move to work. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

I can't believe that this will bring an end to the Chick Hearn/Vin Scully/Bob Miller era in LA sports broadcasting. Legends, all of them. |

Maybe this will be a reverse hex, but Kopitar really needs to pick it up. He's just not good enough right now. Not even on defense in his own zone. |

Kopitar has been hot garbage this season in relation to the big money contract he got. Still, the last 20 odd games is his chance to redeem himself and show why he's considered a top center in the league.
Unfortunately, the Kings did not address their biggest problems, namely scoring and team speed. But, they can make up for it by running their system correctly.
They didn't give up too much in their acquisitions as Cernak has been disappointing since being drafted. Sad to lose King, but they would've lost him anyway in the offseason.
This is looking like a do or die season for Dean Lombardi. He's depleted the talent pool the last few years and have handed out some really bad long term contracts. The NHL's salary cap situation is probably the worst among all the major sport leagues. Too many teams are cap-strapped and those really long-term contracts are too restrictive for any future moves. He's built the foundation for the franchise, but it's getting close to where the team needs to make some huge changes if they want to realistically compete for the Cup. |

Bob Miller is an absolute legend and part of the legendary Big 3 (Hearn, Scully, Miller) of LA Sports Broadcasting.
Bob Miller has been the Kings play-by-play man since 1973.
He is all class and I am so glad he got to witness the two Stanley Cups as he broadcast a lot of horrible Kings teams especially in the early years.
Very sad to me as an older person to have all three of these legends no longer on the air after this season. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

A stat that amazed me during the press conference was that Bob has more years broadcasting Kings Hockey, than Chicky Baby had with the Lakers.
I wanna say it was 45 to 42.
I guess that's more about Chick being gone now going on 15 or so some odd years...
Wow!
We've been spoiled silly here in SoCal as far as our sports broadcasters that is for sure.
Very fitting Miller's last two games will be at Staples vs Chicago (Where Bob's from) and at Honda center vs the Ducks (I-5 nemesis). _________________ 16 and counting.... |

Kopitar continues to really struggle. I honestly can't believe what I'm watching. It seems like he loses the puck whenever he has it on his stick now. He isn't making anything happen. He just looks awful. |
