It has to be said after Durant hyper extended his knee tonight.
They have been very lucky the past 3 years or so avoiding major injuries. When it seems like a team like the Cavs are constantly dealing with major injuries.
How long will their streak of non major injuries hold up?
Injuries to Curry, Durant, Thompson or Green could have a serious impact on them. Of course there is always the chance that one of those guys could go down (or Green could get suspended).

You can argue that Curry's injury affected them last year, as Irving's and Love's injury affected the Cavs the year before that.

Big difference imo. Irving and Love were immobilized. Curry's injury was surrounded with alot of speculation. Curry was hurt not injured. At that time of the year almost everyone is hurt.

It is a big difference. But maybe that difference is reflected in the fact that the Cavs got blown out in 6 the first time, while the Warriors lost the second time about as close as you can lose. Don't think we'll ever know how banged up Curry was, but it might have been enough to make a different in a no-margin-for-error win
They may not get past the Jazz in the first round and if they slip below the Grizzlies or Thunder, they definitely won't get past Rockets or Spurs in 1st round.
Most championship-worthy teams exist one significant injury away from severe loss of ability to contend. With Durant or Curry or Green reduced or out, they're vulnerable to the other five or six best teams in the league.

I think the Cavs are disproportionately reliant on Lebron. An Irving/Love led team doesn't even make the playoffs.
A Curry/Klay/Dray led team can still win the Finals. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

The Warriors are severely depleted without a healthy Kevin Durant. The loss of quality, depth and playing familiarization of the players given up to get him (essentially Harrison Barnes, Barbosa, Bogut, Ezeli, Speights) will test the club's ability during this period. Can they integrate far lesser talents for the next month or more ? They can't without a falloff in the W-L rate.
Who can step in and step up ? FA Matt Barnes - even if signed - is washed-up so I don't expect much there. Looney and McAdoo haven't been playing much; could they surprise us ? No, I guess it'll be McCaw or West to see more minutes, following a likely move of Livingston into a starting role. Still, that's a steep drop off of talent from Durant. Livingston is a poor shooter from distance, so expect a disturbance in The Force.
They don't have a resource ready to tap for a reliable 15 ppg or 7 rpg, unless someone - or combination of somebodys - really steps up to the challenge. _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”
Well, tough to say. Are Cavs immune from the injury bug too? If Lebron gets hurt, that team is toast.
If KD is hurt, the Warriors still have a chance.
Lebron is a tank. He never seems to suffer any kind of serious injury. That might be his best asset, he never seems to have to miss time due to any physical injury. Any time he does miss seems to be mostly voluntary as he takes a rest.

He's like the reverse Kobe. Very low pain tolerance (so many voluntarily missed games) but no real serious injuries. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Right. But my point is that from a roster construction standpoint, if Lebron is out the Cavs have no chance. It's really a 1 pillar construction.
The Warriors have arguably 4 pillars that need to be knocked down. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Really struggling today against the lowly Knicks. Only two games ahead of the Spurs, could potentially be one after this game. Looking very vulnerable... _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Lucky for them, they won't have to worry about potentilly losing until the WCF, so long as they remain the #1 seed.
Unless they play the Grizzlies in the 2nd round... _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts!
I haven't spent any time watching Golden State since Durant was sidelined, but their subsequent results have been pretty weak. As expected, it seems to be a diminished bench that's slowing them down the most in his absence. But if KD returns in time for the start of the second round of the postseason, and his return to health is reasonably complete, I think they should be back on track as favorites for the 2017 championship.
Interesting side note to his injury (at least for me): the 2016/2017 All NBA First Team is now almost certain to exclude all members of the Golden State Warriors. By my reckoning, it's going to be Westbrook, Harden, Kawhi, LeBron and Cousins. For a team with so much acclaim, that will be a pretty remarkable outcome ... I didn't think Durant was more deserving than Kawhi anyway, even when healthy, but now that he's likely to play less than 60 - 62 R/S games, it's almost a certainty.

I don't see how you tie voluntary missed games to pain tolerance. It's minute management, similar to Duncan. Considering he has more minutes on his body at this point than almost anyone ever, seems wise.
