I see what you did there.

And yes I truly do believe it's our year as well.

It's a long season, but hopefully the Dodgers can find that right combination and get some magic. Last season they were plagued by injuries and terrible against lefties. The awful homeplate call on Gonzalez was the turning point of the Cubs series. The team is due for a breakout season. Still, there are some real good teams out there to challenge them. The NL Central race is gonna be brutal. The NL West race could be interesting.

I don't have my hopes up at all and I don't even count Ryu as part of our rotation but how nice would it be if he were to come back and be healthy with the same effectiveness?

Kershaw
Hill
Maeda
Ryu
Urias

That's a nice rotation.

15-20 wins from your 3rd/4th starter wouldn't be bad at all...

Just needs to stay healthy for the entire season.

More on that, Kersh yesterday, and tasty tidbits on the state of the rotation in general.

Quote:
Kershaw said that he looks for the way hitters react to his pitches to gauge his effectiveness.

"Just look at their swings, see if they're just missing, if they look comfortable taking good swings," he said. "Sometimes, even if they're not getting hits, if that happens you might need to change some things."

After Kershaw, though, the rotation is still uncertain. Rich Hill starts against the Brewers on Wednesday coming off a rough four-run outing. On Wednesday, Kenta Maeda will pitch a simulated game, which Alex Wood did impressively on Tuesday.

With a day off on Thursday, Julio Urias and Brandon McCarthy will pitch on Friday against Texas. Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his Cactus League debut on Saturday, backed up by Brock Stewart, and on Sunday, Kershaw and Wood will pitch.

Urias threw an eye-popping bullpen session on Tuesday. Although management hinted at leaving him behind in extended spring training to conserve innings, that talk has been silenced.

With Scott Kazmir (hip tightness) unsure about his next start, the final rotation spot could come down to McCarthy, Wood or Ryu; all three have dealt with operations in the past two seasons. There doesn't appear to be room in the rotation for Stewart, or for Ross Stripling, who seems more in play as a multiple-innings reliever.

I think the Rich Hill signing is risky because of his age and injury history. He gets the biggest contract of his life and the Dodgers could get screwed again.

Now why would you say that? (snark). He's won 38 games in 12 years, over three games per year! He's averaged nearly 51 innings per year! Hey, and don't forget that 4.10 ERA.

Another negative with Hill is he is from Boston.

The one positive for Hill is he is well preserved with not alot of mileage. Let's hope for the best.

Greinke was never a real flamethrower at SP. His game is predicated on pitch placement and movement as well as intense study, which is what extends a pitcher's lifespan. He avg 91 as a Dodger and will likely bring it back up by spring training's end.

The problem is if his fastball velocity drops too much, his off-speed pitches become very hittable.

He's hitting 88-89 last I saw. Probably out of shape for a bit so I don't think it will drop too far. He's a lanky guy so I don't expect this to be anything other than a minor dip in the long run.

Start moved to Saturday, per Gurnick

All I've seen of spring training has been basically homerun highlights on instagram. But with both of Puig's HR he seems like it's a more relaxed swing and that he's staying taller through his swing. Instead of his normal swing so hard that he twist his whole trunk and has to land on a knee.

Was there any word on him working on his swing this off-season?

He was already working on it from the 2nd half of last season and it already yielded benefits. Here's hoping he can continue.
