Not sure how successful an SD franchise will be....Out of all the pro sports San Diego only gave a damn about the Chargers and thats gone. |

That is why it has a good shot.
Only Padres to compete with and large Hispanic population.
Immigrants would probably rather follow Xolos but those born here will probably follow MLS San Diego.
My dad watches Liga MX. I do not.
We are both watching Galaxy Home opener right now. |

They don't care about MLB, NBA, NFL or whatever sport to keep them busy during the year...its pretty much soccer over there. Considering they pretty much invented the game and have hundred plus years of history invested into club soccer its not a surprise. In the USA, we don't have anything close to that, which is why relegation will probably never work here. |
Book recommendation: Soccernomics
Some of the sections of this book are sort of BS (like the argument that the competitive balance in the NFL is no difference from the competitive balance in the EPL), but a lot of the discussion is fascinating. In particular, the book shoots down a lot of the myths about the fanaticism of English soccer fans. When you cut through the mythology, English fans sound pretty much the same as American fans. There are hardcores, casuals, bandwagoners, etc. |
I've read this book. It is indeed fascinating. |

Here is ESPN's player poll.

A lot of the answers are interesting or entertaining, but the one that jumped out to me is that 49% thought that the officiating was getting better. That's good to know. Even though the Dynamo were a poor team last year, there were a few games early last season that really made me suspicious of the referees. |

Minnesota United hosted Atlanta United in the first matchup of these year's expansion teams which Atlanta won 5-1. Second straight 5-1 defeat by Minnesota to open the season, while Atlanta looks like a dangerous team that will capitalize on their opponent's defensive miscues. |

I thought it was 6-1. I listened to the end of the demolition on Sirius while driving. I feel for all those people who in Minnesota who braved the cold and snow to see their team get humiliated. |

I stand corrected. I didn't realize Atlanta had a penalty in stoppage time because I already flipped the channel over to FS1 to watch the Galaxy match. And you're right. The fans showed up to the game but their team put on an absolute stinker. |

Meanwhile, the Dynamo are 2-0-0. When do the playoffs start? |

I know these games are scheduled far in advance but there was a brand new indoor stadium that just opened last NFL season and probably wasn't in use that day.... |

Bastian Schweinsteiger is leaving Manchester United for the Chicago Fire. Rumored since before new year I'm surprised he didn't leave sooner given how he's been frozen out by Mourinho. |
The Fire are acting like they're tired of being a doormat. |
