Fall behind 4-0 at home to the lowly Canucks, and lose 4-3. Absolutely brutal. Zero points in a game where you should get 2.

They are on the cusp of missing the playoffs/being a one and done in the playoffs team. That means they're at a crossroads. A middling team with no blue chip prospects, little salary cap room, and big albatross long-term contracts.

They're gonna have to find the fountain of youth and somehow re-create the 2012 and 2014 magic. Not sure if they have it in them. They've never recovered from Voynov's stupidity.

Yeah I'm worried about everything you just said. If they miss the playoffs this year and if we are floundering and look like we're going to miss the playoffs next year, we have to ask ourselves if we should move our assets for some draft/young player capital, as hard as that would be.

Heard the OT winner on the radio in the car driving home. Needed those 2 points badly. Within 1 of St. Louis, though they have 1 game in hand. Still 8 back of Calgary, as the Flames are 9-0-1 in their last 10 and are on fire (see what I did there lol).

Big game against the Crapitals tomorrow. Most points in the league

You knew the *ucks were gonna lose to the Blues last night, didn't you? There was literally zero doubt in my mind. Three points behind them now.

Well folks, we might be looking at missing the playoffs in 2 out of 3 seasons. Gave up a late goal in regulation against Arizona last night, and then lost a marathon shootout against them. That gives us 1 point out of a possible 4 against the Coyotes in 2 games since the AS Break. This on the heels of a huge loss in regulation against the Blues.

We're now 4 points behind the Blues and they have a game in hand on us. We're not out of it, but we're running out of time.

Iginla was not enough to propel the offense. That's basically what we're missing. In SC runs, we always had an ex-Blue Jacket come in and give us a spark offensively.

Ducks gotta help us out tonight. Even if they squeak into the playoffs, they'll get murdered in the QF like they did last year. It's different, it's not like they're on some huge tear

Surprised the Ducks won tonight in regulation. So we're still 4 points back and now both teams have the same # of games left. The defense corps is also not as deep as it's been in the past.

Yeah, honestly, that's a good point. The % of points that we've attained at the end of regulation is pretty poor. That's a reflection of the lack of depth that we have now. For most of this season, we've basically had 1 scoring line and 2 D men who haven't played well. For the Kings to play "Kings hockey", we need 2 scoring lines and 5 good D men. We can get away with 2 workmanlike lines and hiding 1 D man.

Also, at the deadline, we needed more scoring and Lombardi went out and got us another goaltender.

Disappointing all around. The team needs scoring and D-men depth. Lombardi gets an expensive goalie who hasn't exactly been lights out backing up Quick and a future potential HOF'er who's way past his prime, albeit was ok for us in a short time. I hope Iginla can stay on as a cheap vet depth but guys need to step it up next season.

We definitely should have tried to move Budaj for a forward or defenseman. Maybe it just wasn't possible; I have no idea. And even though I like Ben Bishop, the fact is that we really didn't need a backup goaltender. Budaj could've done just fine there. Just seemed like barely more than a lateral move. (Yes, Bishop is better than Budaj, but since both would've been backups, the impact difference is minimal.)

This trade deadline was gonna be different from years past because of the looming expansion draft. Forwards were traded at a high premium. The Kings just do not have any trade bait and cap space to make the moves they need to make. Budaj was starting to tail off before he was traded. It's a shame Bishop hasn't played up to his talent. At least getting Iginla didn't cost anything once they officially miss the playoffs.

The team is at a crossroads. They need to make tweaks to their philosophy. They need real blue-chip talent and they need to get rid of the bloated contracts. Kopitar was terrible this year as both captain and on the scoreboard and he needs to rebound. It looks to me like the Kings will benefit the most from a reset like the Sharks did a couple offseasons ago when they made the coaching change and little tweaks.

One of Lombardi's best traits, his loyalty, is also his biggest weakness. He needs to know that to be constantly competitive you've got to have young talent. During their run they've traded for veterans and have gotten slower. Their draft picks have not been very good and they kept giving away the few that they had. Sucks that this draft year isn't very good.

Kopi has been on a very concerning downward trend. Brown has continued to flounder. The youngsters Toffoli and Pearson have hit a wall and not quite become the studs we need.

Agree on Toffoli, but Pearson has been one of the better forwards for the team this year. Unfortunately I don't see him getting any better than he already is. But if he consistently puts up these kind of numbers, that's not bad as long as the contract is good for the team.

Kings need to show some retribution for the Doughty hit. Can't let a young dirty punk like Tkachuk get away with that elbow and then calling out Doughty for it.

Kings disappoint for a third straight season. Hopefully they win the draft lottery, because it's not a very good one. Then they need a couple of miracles in finding ways to dump the big contracts. As much as I like Kopitar, he's not a guy that deserves to earn one of the top 3 contracts in the league. The team may have to retool slowly. They've got assets to trade in Carter, Martinez, and Muzzin. As much as I'd like them to stay, the team needs to start coming up with some long-term answers. They either re-tool and replenish the farm, or blow it all up.
