I found this interesting tid bit in the latest Ding article, Lakers Show Loyalty Matters More Than Family with New Magic-Pelinka Front Office

Quote:
Jerry West was interested in returning to the Lakers, where son Ryan has carved out a useful role with the old and new regime, but, though Jeanie Buss will forever revere Jerry, he didn't match her vision for the future, according to NBA sources.

lol. Ding articles are fun because it's amazing how he spins stuff.
"Though she will forever revere Jerry"
You think he adds that qualifier if Jim Buss rejected Jerry West?

Also, why on Earth you wouldn't want Jerry West in the FO is idiotic. I honestly can't think of one reason you wouldn't want The Logo in a consulting role (I doubt he wanted to be the full time GM). Actually, I have a reason. West is the one person in LA who can draw fire to Magic and Jeanie. Not saying this is the case, but Jeanie being threatened by West's cachet would explain everything.

Only one reason I can think of as far as being the GM -- age & health.

If he wanted to be GM for the Lakers, then that's one thing. But like you said, at his age & health, I don't think he'd want to be a GM to begin with.

Well said. No reason West shouldn't have been welcomed back. Would have had a lot more confidence in this FO makeover with West's voice in the mix

If Magic wants to bring in Jerry I don't see Jeanie objecting to that.

What vision does Jerry instill that Jeanie doesn't see compatible? A winning one?

The rumor at the time (RIP Joe McDonnell) was that Jerry hated the relationship.

Doesn't this directly contradict Ramona's article where she listed Magic, Jerry, Phil, and Kobe as the only four people that Jeanie considered?

What article is that? And if Jeanie considered Kobe for the president position, my God.

Probably....

I also think we're seeing that Jeanie had more of an influence on the free agent pitches than previously though. The Pelinka press conference focused way too much or branding and marketing opportunities for free agent. It really did sound like the pitches they gave Dwight and Aldridge.

If you are a fan, you learn to accept it.

For years, clippers were actually run by idiots but fans stayed loyal.

That is happening now.

My loyalty to the Lakers will keep on keeping on

A real leader keeps their mouth shut and let's smarter ppl run the show

I still think people should not be able to pass their teams off to the children.

He would probably want to keep Mitch around.

Whatever makes you feel better to excuse Jeanie of this.
