Lakers should lock up Nwaba. If you want to play with other 10 days, that's what MWP's roster spot is for.

No need for MWP's spot. He took Calderón's.

Maybe they give him another 10-day, but I'd sign him long term (3 yrs, 2nd yr non-guaranteed) right now.
Remember whatever he is doing on offense right now is also a part of the fact that no team is even mentioning him in their game plan. Come next year this time. They will scout for him too. on both ends. how to keep him off of their best guy, how to defend his little euro step move he likes to do. box him out to keep him off the glass, etc, etc.

Once that happens. we will find out if he is good enough to make adjustments anyway. OR if that game planning for him even stops what he does best. because there are times when you can gameplan all you want and you still can't stop it. "he's going to his right everytime". So. you still can't stop it. We need to see if thats the case with Mr Dunk. This is why I'm not sure I want to sign him to a 3 year deal. 2 years with that 2nd one a team option is best in my opinion. Now if too many teams come calling. WE might have to go with your plan of 3 years.

there's a ton of d league footage of him around, cant be that hard to scout him

you're missing my point. right now other teams dont even take the time to do so. since he's not a part of what the lakers are trying to do YET.

its like when you see a young player start balling for a few weeks or even a month. then the next month he seems to suck. yes its about his own consistency, fatigue, etc. but its also about the opponent now being on notice. thats the gift and the curse of showcasing your talent at the nba level.
its like a "Ohhhh. So you think you're good now. Ok, let me put my scientists on you and lets see what happens the next time we see you."

Imagine multiple people watching your every move and having tape on all of your movements. imagine the stat geeks they have running your numbers thru various systems. They have your every move mapped out. and they have people that are just as fast as you, just as long, just as strong or longer or stronger or faster. all making sure they try and stop what you do best and what you're use to doing. do you have the presence of mind to counter that? or are you a one trick pony?

now again, some one trick pony's have such a great trick its hard to stop regardless of scouting. say like kenneth Farried's rebounding. you can gameplan all you want. odds are he's still going to get his. he's that strong, that long, and that athletic. plus he really understands how to position his body.

He's shown a lot of skills.

- Willingness to attack the rim and draw a foul.
- Plays with effort
- Has a decent looking shot.

I can see him playing a nice role on the team, who does he remind you guys of?

That's why I'd sign him with non-guaranteed 2nd and 3rd years. Anyway, Lakers can sign him to the end of the season, bring him back to SL and training camp and make the decision.

Nwaba is obviously very limited in his offensive game and he's likely going to be used to push for transition buckets or to finish at the rim offensively and defensively. But I still think he's a good fit as he's a physically capable athlete and I'm excited to see what he can do, although he's more than likely a benchwarmer.

Nothing's guaranteed, let's just see how well he adjusts to the NBA adjusting to him.

He is far from the worst player on the roster.

Of course, it doesn't always end up being about just that.

This dude can carve a role similar to Andre Roberson even if he never develops a jumper. Athletic dude who can cut to the basket and always plays hard

I like Nwaba - he provides an extra level of defense beyond that of most NBA players. He's also willing and able to attack the rim and come through with plays in clutch situations. That's a pretty good starting point. Now if only he could shoot from range or make FT's consistently. I hope the Lakers hang on to him and see if he can develop some shooting skills this summer.

Not a lot of players like Nwaba get this kind of opportunity. Hope he's been cubbyholing some of that league minimum to hire himself a shooting coach and just absolutely ham this summer.

This is truly the most exciting news in Lakerland, since they changed out the toilet paper at Staples...!

I really love they guy on defense and taking it to the rim.....but saying "if he could get a shot" is a huge "if"....we are waiting on half the roster to get a shot, and they started off much better shooters that he appears to be.
