This was one of the greatest moments in television history.
I remember watching this as a kid when it aired. It was unreal!
Here's a piece of a Jake Roberts shoot interview when he talks about this incident. It's very entertaining hearing about the feud and the behind the scenes of how it transpired:

spot on impression of Macho. Not too over the top like others.
I was genuinely scared when I saw it when I was 9. Me and my classmates speculated all day in school whether or not Macho was gonna die! _________________ Thank you, Kobe. We love you.

Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s followed by the WWF then GLOW. Glorious times. _________________ KOBE
This is probably a tremendous long shot but if anyone is interested, and in the L.A. area, I have four extra tickets for tonight's Pro Wrestling Guerilla show. PM me if interested.
This entire match is top shelf but skip to 17:40 and watch the entire show come out to congratulate Bret, including Burt Reynolds, Macho, Razor, and Piper, and Donny Wahlberg. _________________ "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers."

Haha at GLOW. I watched that a time or two. They're ALL champions in the ring. Wendy Richter and Cyndi Lauper vs Fabulous Moolah gave Vince the balls/galls to lob GLOW onto the fans. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

That Netflix series "GLOW", starring Alison Brie, is really a fun watch.
3/4 of the Hart Foundation gone. Rest in Power Owen, Davey Boy and Anvil.
3/5's, right? Brett and Brian Pillman of the later version.....and Jimmy Hart managed the original version.
***correction, just checked, Pillman passed a long time ago....I do not recall his passing.
Man I completely forgot about Brian (RIP). Their feuds with DX and Steve Austin throughout '96-'97 were excellent. Definitely catapulted the attitude era into full gear.
And of course dumbass Atlanta fans were telling him "Hurry up", "Boring". While he was talking about something very real.
A little off topic, but WCW really messed up how they used Bret. They should have put him up against Hogan, Sting, Giant right away. Instead they put him up against the mid-carders. It was nonsense. I can't believe how much great wrestling and sports entertainment talent that franchise had in 97. If they had wanted to, they could have built 4-5 Goldberg like stars, using their other proven stars to help younger guys get over. Instead it was just Bill Goldberg they put over. Putting Bret over right away over Hogan, not only draws money, it would have meant instant recognition to the younger mid-card talent, because Bret always wanted to help build the younger guys who could actually wrestle (Like Benoit, Booker T, Jericho etc). Instead you wind up seeing Bret put on quality matches in 98 with guys like Booker, Benoit, Malenko etc. only it was important because they were mid-card matches in the shadow of re-runs of the same stuff they were trying to do in 96 with the NWO. Not only did WCW have at the time mega stars like Hogan, Bret, Nash/Hall, Sting, Piper etc. they had the guys like Goldberg who they could have put over and made into great stars as well (Something WWE did right away) with Jericho, Giant/Big Show, Booker T, Benoit etc.
If I recall correctly, Hogan's contract gave him control over the direction of his character and consequently booking decisions in matches he was involved in. WCW did not have the power to put Brett over Hogan.
Of course, we can all blame Bishoff for being stupid enough to agree to such a contract with Hogan.
