Stance in that NBCsports link looks a lot like Turner's. Man, if Puig could hit like that, with his speed and strength...

Man, a return to the version of Puig from his first couple of seasons would be incredible for this team. The potential for 3 dynamic young outfielders in Joc, Puig, and Toles is there. And think about the depth. Ethier is in the final year of his big contract and could be a legit option against righties, assuming the leg has fully healed. Gutierrez mashes lefties and should get semi-regular AB's against them for as long as he's healthy, and, further down the depth chart, Trayce and SVS could still be options against lefties.

If Ethier is looking really good coming out of camp, I could see the Dodgers start Toles down in AAA just to keep him playing regularly and to avoid losing SVS in a roster crunch. (I expect that Trayce will begin the season on the DL.) And as soon as someone were to play ineffective and/or an injury arose, he could get the call back up. I personally think Toles should be an everyday player against righties at the very least, but it doesn't necessarily have to be right out of the gates. He has options, so I won't blow a gasket if we start him in the minors.

This doesn't even say anything of the possibility of using Bellinger in the outfield if he is absolutely mashing in the minors and looks ready to hit major league pitching.

This team has a ton of depth, and as long as the setup crew in front of Kenley can do a decent job and if Kershaw is healthy, I think they can do some damage.

PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2017 8:37 am    Post subject: A six-man rotation?

So, I've been pondering this for awhile now and I wonder what others might think of the proposal: The Dodgers adopt a pseudo, sorta, six-man rotation.

Since the team, for the moment at least, has plenty of starters, they want to limit the innings for Urias, Maeda is used to pitching once a week, and just about every other pitcher has injury concerns, why not? I remember back in the 70's when they went to a five-man rotation, with Sutton commenting that he felt sharper in a four-man but stronger in a five-man. Maybe the same would apply when moving to a six-man--and stronger is good with this staff. The exception, of course, would be Kershaw, so the rotation would go Kersh, 2, 3, 4, 5, Kersh, 6, 2, 3, 4, Kersh, 5, 6, 2, 3. . . .

^I've been thinking that too. Could mix it up even more, since we so many people vying for a starting spot. Give McCarthy a start off in-between, since he's coming off TJ. Take Wood slow too. Same with Kazmir. Only real "regulars" would be Urias, Kersh, and Maeda, but the rotation would give Urias and Maeda extended rest while keeping Kershaw on regular rest. Could be a 6-man rotation with as many as 8 pitchers in the mix.

Nice new digs for JT. Looks like he's finally getting settled in for the long haul.

Nice to see, even if it is only two innings:

Code:
Pitchers   IP    H    R   ER   BB   SO   HR   ERA
H-J Ryu    2.0   1    0    0    0    2    0   0.00

No radar gun, unfortunately, but I thought the velocity looked decent. Getting the old Ryu back would be awesome.

Rick Monday is not the main guy calling games this year, right? I might need to stock up on Red Bull.

Kazmir showing what a bad signing he was. Concerns about his velocity as his fastball is 82-84. Crap, I was hoping the Dodgers could dump him and McCarthy for something.

How about for another oft-injured, horrendous, and expensive ex-A's or ex-Ray's pitcher?

Joe Davis is the new full-time play by play guy. He'll be calling the games with Orel doing color. I think Nomar is going to be with them too.

Monday and Steiner will do radio.

After yesterday's start (4 inn, 1 hit, no runs), let's continue to hope Ryu is back fully. I do hope he (1.00 ERA this Spring) makes the rotation over McCarthy (4.85) as even a 90% Ryu is better than a 100% McCarthy. The only thing McCarthy has going for him is that is left hand is the one in a glove.

Rotation should be:

Kershaw
Maeda
Hill
Ryu
McCarthy

Urias will be given his chances throughout the season especially when we're hit by injuries.

Can't wait for Urias's illness to subside. He's better than anyone on our roster not named Kershaw and even then, once Urias reaches his potential, that would be up for debate. Andrew Bynum has a better chance of staying healthy than McCarthy and Hill.

Urias is almost certainly not going to start the season in the rotation and I'm perfectly fine with that. They have a plan to limit his innings so that his bullets count for the stretch run and the postseason, should we get there.

I'm very encouraged with how Ryu has looked. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they keep him back in extended spring training just to continue to build him up slowly, to make sure he's all the way back. (Or, at least, to get to a point where he's as good as he can be now.) They might just start McCarthy and Wood in the rotation at first, and then when the first injury or bout of ineffectiveness comes up, Ryu can take someone's place. And then Urias after that. I'm not even considering Kazmir right now, but who knows, he may get a shot at some point, given the money they are paying him.

I have a fantasy baseball league that I've been in for about 20 years. (Half of my life.) We do separate NL-only and AL-only auction drafts on the same day, and the whole thing takes about 8 hours total. This is the second year in a row that I didn't end up getting a single Dodger. I wanted to take Toles as my LF but ended up with Grichuk.

Incidentally, I have 3 Cardinals (Grichuk, Carpenter, and Carlos Martinez), and I'm not happy about having to root for Cardinals players LOL. But hey, I play to win, what can I say?

Now that I mention it, I also have 2 Giants (Nunez and Crawford). God help me.

The team this year is incredibly deep. They can sustain alot of injuries at multiple positions and it probably won't effect them too much.

What a find by Logan White. Wish we could have him back. I'd dump this FO in a second to get him back as our scouting director. Then again, I'd dump this FO for a cheeseburger.

White made so many great drafting decisions. He really was a big loss. The worst part is he's in San Diego now.
