I was a Harden guy pretty much this entire season, but I really can't ignore what Westbrook is doing.

I hadn't realized what a terrific statistical season Lebron had, even by his standards.

The award should go to Harden based on how voters traditionally play it. LeBron would have the MVP if his team didn't under achieve, the same issues that plagued Kobe numerous times. WB had an all time season, but the voters would really have to go against normal values to give it to him.

I would flip 2/3 in the voting if I were to rank MVP.

1.Harden
2.WB
3.Leonard
4.Lebron

Thats my guess as to how it will actually play out.

Unquestionably it is Westbrook at this moment. F all this Co-MVP nonsense. I hope this is the year they correct the nonsense narrative about MVP which punishes players for having worse teammates.

If Harden wins it then I think D'Antoni should keep the trophy. It'll be his 3rd MVP trophy.

The criteria that is currently used for the MVP is stats, team success, and subjective observation about how much of that team success is due to the specific player.

Using this criteria Westbrook's triple doubles, the team making the playoffs and he's definitely the reason for the season makes him the hands down choice for the award.

I look at the player deserving the award differently. I add how much the player has done for the league. Filling seats, taking image of the league world wide, enhancing the NBA brand. I agree with ocho.

This year the NBA is going to have an awards show for all the awards at once. It is June 26th. So not until after the NBA finals is over.

A shame. Would have been better for the MVP to have been knocked out of the playoffs and accepting the award the way Dirk did.

Dreamshake, let's say Harden doesn't win. Which winner would be easier to take: Westbrook or Leonard?

If you average a triple-double and break the single-season triple-double record while also leading the league in scoring, you're the MVP.

You'd think kawhi, because then at least its awarding winning and not stat padding

Would be interesting to see who the players would vote for.
I didn't watch enough Rockets, OKC, Spurs or Cavs games to really make a good decision - but Westbrook for me deserves it most.

Have they voted yet? They gonna be influenced by this playoff performances... on one hand, Harden looked great in game 1 >> Westbrook, on the other hand, you could see how much superior Harden's teammates compare to Westbrook's

Neither is hard to take. I realize it's a media award, and more comes into it than play. I don't think Westbrook is deserving based on how the award has ever been given though, but I'm sure he will win.
