We would have had 55% chance of keeping top 3 pick if we finished with 2nd worst record but instead we now have 47.8%. So basically we traded 7% chance of keeping top-3 pick for a 5-game win streak.
Worth it? If we get to keep the pick, then it's all good. If we don't, then all hell will break loose and people will go back and blame this meaningless 5-game winstreak.
I'm not religious but I gotta pray to someone/anyone that the lottery balls fall in our favor.

And if teams below us jump us, then we will complain we should have won more games. It's all luck at the end of the day. |

If you told me we could win 10 mores games than last year (27 wins), let our young guys start shining (DLO/BI/Jules), AND still have about a 50% chance at top 3 pick, I'd say that was a good year all things considered. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Yep, 27 wins and a 10 game improvement despite blatant tanking for 1/3 of the season. The funny thing to me is that many people on this board were predicting 30-35 wins. Those win totals almost totally remove us from a realistic shot at a top-3 pick. But somehow, winning 27 and having a 48% shot at keeping the pick is disastrous. |

Yeah. I had them in the 28-32 win pocket and out of top 3.
All things considered, I think we did it the right way and checked off multiple boxes. I do think the basketball gods will reward our recent win streak. We did it the right way. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I predicted a win total in the low-mid 30s, so I expected us to lose our lottery pick this year. I'll consider it a very pleasant surprise if we end up keeping it. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

One thing people forget is that we won 21 games (i.e. how many games we had won before this win streak) in 2015 and we were the #4 seed in terms of lottery odds. That we can win 26 or 27 and end up the #3 seed is actually rather fortuitous. All a matter of perspective. |

I mean, look at the bright side. If there were 2 or 3 more games left we'd probably pass philly and Orlando. Thank god the season ends today 😂 _________________ He's my GOAT |

I would attribute:
* Some of it to teams not making really bad trades that sent them into downward spirals
* Some of it to the veteran teams not being to significantly improve their rosters because of drafting late and/or not having first round picks
* Some of it to parity
* Some of it to the Lakers bottoming out as team transitioning from veterans to a youth movement
Golden State has been able to stay on top, but they have some difficult decisions to make this summer and that might reel them back to the pack a bit. |

Well the thread title doesn't have a year, so we can use it for next year. |

Nope - I don't normally believe in bad luck, but if this thread results in losing the 2017 pick, it should be locked and lit on fire. |

I predicted them winning 25-28 games so I'm not surprised, only team I thought would be worst was the Kings in the west. If we lose our pick, so be it. It's not the end of the world, but damn I would love to see Fultz, Ball or Tatum on this team next year. _________________ #1 Markelle Fultz
#2 Lonzo Ball
#3 Jayson Tatum
#4 Lauri Markkanen
Markkanen will be a better pro than Josh Jackson
Doubling Down: Josh Jackson will get traded before his rookie contract expires and will have off court issues. |

Yeah- it was a good year to get solid lotto odds, as there were no teams who were 100% outright tanking until PHX for the last month or so.
Nets were bad, but not intentionally, while Philly, Orlando, etc were all trying to win. Lots of parity, especially in the East, that allowed the Lakers to take the #3 slot with 26 or 27 wins.
I haven't gone back and looked specifically, but I'm pretty sure off the top of my head that in most years, you're not getting the #3 slot with 26/27 wins. |

Not Lakers tank related, but Orlando won tonight while Philly lost giving the Sixers sole control of the #4 draft slot. The Knicks beat the Sixers by a point while Minnesota lost by a bucket, tying them both for sixth worst odds. |

There's a part of me that really wants to spite the Sixers just because their fans have been obnoxious about having our pick |
