TRob is a classic case of overrating athleticism/clay and disregarding bball IQ and skill.

He does hustle and makes impact in garbage minutes.

If the Lakers trade Randle as is frequently suggested. Would Nance and Robinson be an acceptable PF duo? Possibly Black or Deng playing PF mpg?

Maybe add a PF with #28 or even #32 if the lottery balls are unkind.

Nance's health worries me but Robinson's energy with the 2nd unit or occasional starts throughout the season could be workable IMO. Prefer keeping Randle, but as an option Robinson isn't a bad one.

For the minimum, I'd keep him.

Excellent athleticism and motor, but terrible BBALL IQ. Good 5th big man to have.

We may do without Black next season if we need clear cap space, so we might be seeing more TRob. Tarik and his game are somewhat similar in that they are both good hustle/high motor guys who really try hard on every play.

TRob has better size, but Tarik has a way better BBall IQ.

Is it too lake for Trob to pick up the nuances of the game? I am wondering if an off season under Luke could help. I like Tarik, but he is so undersized, TRob could ultimately be a better defender because of that if he knew where to be on the floor.

He rarely plays in any other situation. When he has played he has held his own.
That being said, since he has done well with garbage minutes, it suggests that he is at least better than most scrubs around the league.
Which bodes well for the overall team strength since he is at the end of the bench.

Hustle and heart are his calling cards ala Kurt Rambis.

Agree but it is good to have that on the bench.

TRob put up some gaudy stats in the last 10 games with the Nets last year too IIRC. Yet no team offered him a deal.

It's clearly not an athleticism issue.

T-Rob could potentially develop into our "Anthony Mason or Kurt Rambis."

garbage minutes? so you call the 2nd and 3rd Quarter garbage minutes....seems like more of a classic case of hanging onto a tired narrative. The guy has played well in stretches lately....no need to hype it or diminish it.

Another good game from T-Rob (9 points 5 rebounds in 14 minutes). He's all heart & hustle; BUT his BBIQ leaves a lot to be desired

Midrange jumpshots and better IQ will net him 2 more contracts. Physical attributes are already there, mental is still a work in progress.

Maybe TRob wants to be the next Matt "I've Been on Every NBA Team" Barnes?

Man, you feel for a guy like TRob. He said he started feeling uneasy again as soon as game last night was over, because he just didn't know whether he'd end up on an NBA roster again like last summer. He's a good dude, and there's definitely a spot for him somewhere in the league with his combo of athleticism and motor. I'm not sure if it's with the Lakers, but he's an NBA player.

We could definitely use him again. He has limited potential but as an energy big off the bench; he is just what we need.

Robinson, and players like Black, Nwaba, MWP, and Brewer, were the reason we couldn't tank "successfully" in the eyes of some. And I mean that in a good way.

Each of them has what we're trying to instill in our core: play hard all the time! They were playing hard when others had already mentally checked out. I definitely did not want to see it, but that little winning streak at the end of the season came from the hard work of these guys, just as much the talent of Ingram, Russell, etc.,

Robinson is also a very underrated passer. Dude was dropping some dimes that had me like..

I mean, as an end-of-the-bench type of big you could do much worst.. but I actually think he's a very solid back-up big.

I'm in the minority and please, spare me the statistics.. but I prefer him to Tarik Black.

It's guys like Robinson, Black, and Nance that may make a Randle trade possible. Not claiming that any of them are better or even necessarily as good, but when you look for tradeable assets that can bring back good value, having depth at that position with guys who can give good minutes is a factor. They can make the loss of Randle manageable. I don't see that same depth at guard or SF for the Lakers.

Thomas Robinson not given assurances about future as free agent

Quote:
Robinson faces yet another uncertain future as he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.

“They didn’t say they did want me back,” Robinson said. “But they didn’t say I wasn’t going to come back, either.”

2017 Player Capsule: Thomas Robinson

Quote:

Season Summary:
Robinson had a positive impact on the Lakers in his limited minutes. He did well to focus on his strengths – rebounding, athleticism – while still developing some other areas of his game, like on-ball defense and ball handling. For a guy that was worried about whether he’d even be able to make a team despite being the No. 5 overall pick in 2012, Robinson showed that he still has a place in the NBA.
He was able to hold up at either the power forward or center position off the bench. Lakers management told him that his defensive awareness needs to improve, but he does have the physical tools necessary to defend bigs on the perimeter and in the paint, versatility that’s valuable in the current NBA. In many a game, Robinson’s energy lifted the bench unit, which is definitely of value on its own.

I like TRob for his effort, but not for his effect.

He looks like he'd make for a good third stringer PF-C on a lousy team for next year, which is what he was for the Lakers. There's probably someone who will need that again. For $1M, can any club hope to do better than him ? Probably not.

Absolutely one of the best "end of the bench" players in the league.
Huge improvement over Sacre Bleau except he can't dance.
