Take away the Padres series so far, they haven't won any series in their short schedule so far.

You have to wonder if teams are going to arrange their starting pitching when facing the Dodgers so that all their lefties start against them. We are just getting dominated against lefties, and I am not talking about Cy Young candidates, either. It's basically "insert name here" beats the Dodgers if they are a lefty.

We're 7-8, and I think we're 2-6 vs. lefties.

So much for the fast start I was hoping for.

As I recall they got off to a slow start last year too.

I'm not too worried about right now. We're built to be a playoff team, though not necessarily a contender. If we're this bad a month after the ASG, then we should start worrying.

They were 12-7 to start last season before getting swept by the Marlins. Our offense was torrid to start.

Billion dollar payroll, and we don't have an ace #2 starter or a 2nd bullpen guy that can be counted on to be a power reliever to come into the 8th inning. Bless Ross Stripling's little heart, but he should not be pitching in the 8th inning in a high leverage situation. We just need to do better.

We got lucky that Blanton did fine in that 8th inning role a season ago, but we can't count on something like that happening again. Absent of Baez turning into a shutdown guy, we need to figure that out.

So much this. I've been harping on it, but our bullpen was lights out and carried us in non-Clayton games last season. That was 100% an anomaly as some of the bullpen guys had career years (Blanton/Libertore). It won't get better as it stands. Hopefully, some of the young arms in the farm can contribute in some way.

Teams had him figured out as early as late last year.

Yeah he hasn't been good since the 2nd half of last season. I thought maybe he was just running on fumes in his first year in America and might come back re-charged, but it looks like he just doesn't have much left. It's not like he's making a ton of money so it's not a huge problem salary wise, but we're looking at the very real possibility of not having a dependable #2 starter, particularly if Hill can't get past the blister issues. Urias has the stuff to pitch like that, but we have to keep in mind that he's still going to be babied and not allowed to throw a ton of pitches or innings, so most of his starts are going to be bullpen games anyway for at least 3 innings.

After Hill it's a bunch of #5's.

McCarthy has been good but who know how long that will last. Wood hasn't been terrible either.

Honeycutt needs to work his magic with Maeda. His fastball still has decent velocity but he's incredibly wild with placement. That's a big concern because he's a finesse pitcher. Because of that, he's getting mashed and he hasn't been able to stay in games past the 6th inning.

I saw a stat today online that said Kershaw is 87-0 in his career when the Dodgers get him 4 runs or more.

That is pretty good.

Hope yesterday was a sign of the bats waking up. Even though the Gnats suck right now, they'll play us tough.
