I don't think there is enough of everything:

* Experienced talent already on the roster to fill key roles or be sent out in trades

* Sufficient quality draft picks to use in trades

* Cap space to bring in enough high level mercenaries

* Multiple teams with bad Front Offices that will give Magic and Pelinka favorable trades

etc

to win now.

What Carmelo Anthony is now

3rd option on a championship roster

Or a Super 6th man ala Lou Williams

If Carmelo was drafted by Detroit the entire story on his career is different, but he wasn't unfortunately.

If the Clippers lose again, especially in this first round matchup with the Jazz, I think the team gets blown up. I think if they decide to keep Chris Paul, then the most likely targets to blowup the team are Jordan and Blake. I think they keep Jordan too, and what they try to do is trade Griffin to the Knicks for Melo and Courtney Lee, and let Redick go. Melo and Paul together is a siren call to Lebron to come to the Clippers, and fulfill his chance to play with Melo and Paul together on the same team. If the Cav's lose this year, I could see this scenario playing out.

Jordan
Melo
Lebron
Lee/Crawford
Paul/Rivers

Blake Griffin is a free agent, and, thus, would have to agree to be signed-and-traded to the Knicks. And with the new CBA, you don't get the same annual raises that you would if you stay with your current team. The Clippers would have to get him to agree to play for the Knicks, assuming the Knicks would want him.

My current plan of attack:

Get involved in this Melo-to-Houston trade, making it a 4-teamer with MIL and us. Deng ends up going to the Knicks, who get picks from us and MIL; we absorb Monroe's expiring.

As long as we're talking about players we have no chance at signing, I'd rather have Durant than Griffin.

Interesting read, even if incredibly simplistic. Just the nature of the media and type of article I guess.

I'm guessing that Magic and Pelinka will be a bit more active then a failed attempt at Caldwell-Pope and then quietly walk away from free agency.

Even if they make the decision to not make the blockbuster trade (still skeptical they can avoid that temptation) The Lakers can (and should IMO) be extremely active in bringing in a guard.

Prefer one of the multiple PGs in free agency but even a SG to take Young's place in the starting lineup. A vet guard is needed in the rotation.

Hypothetically if the Lakers went with top 3 / Russell/ Clarkson / Ennis / Nwaba I would still be adding an experienced guard to the mix. Which skillset is preferred or how much they spend is debatable. Bottom line is Caldwell-Pope would be interesting but just one of several that could fit that the FO is going to be pursuing this summer.

What happens if the Lakers offer a 20m deal to Dion Waiters.

2 of 4 of these players will be Lakers in 2018 (LBJ/PG13/WB/Boogie)

I heard most of it, he thinks half of the roster won't return.

I'm assuming Ireland thinks a trade for George or Butler is happening. Did he mention any other names?

Chicago is not trading butler.

Pg13 is getting more expensive each playoff game.

To his credit he has played well and is in line for a nice payday. Took a gamble on himself and will pay out this summer.

My point is the question is totally irrelevant and has as much chance of happening as the scenario stated above

He didn't actually think a PG13 or Butler trade is set in stone, he just kept conducting that he can see a lot of changes being made this summer.

Reddick for 20M or Waiters for 20M? I bet Luke would want Reddick.
