Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush recently teamed up in an effort to buy the Miami Marlins, and according to a report, they succeeded.
Scott Soshnick, who writes for Bloomberg, broke the news Tuesday.

“A group led by former Florida governor Jeb Bush and former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter have won the auction for the Miami Marlins baseball team, according to a person with knowledge of the deal,” Soshnick wrote. “The person requested anonymity because the sale contract hasn’t been signed. The person declined to say how much the group paid for the team, which is owned by New York art dealer Jeff Loria.”
While no purchase price has been announced, it was reported earlier in the year that owner Loria had a deal in place to sell the franchise for $1.6 billion.
Jeter wasn’t the only former MLB star to have thrown his name into this particular hat. Tom Glavine had teamed up with Mitt Romney’s son (politicians have some cash, by the way) in pursuit of the same goal.
In the end, the Jeter/Bush combo reportedly proved too potent. The Bush family has gone down this road before, as former President George W. Bush owned the Texas Rangers from 1989-94.
Time will tell if this is a positive development for the Marlins, who have floundered under Loria in recent years. |

Dodgers ownership got a killer deal if the Marlins really sold for 1.6 billion. |

My guess is the real investors are the ones fronting the money while they are the public face. Kinda like Magic for the Dodgers. |

Quote: | Report: Michael Jordan joins Derek Jeter’s bid to buy Miami Marlins
Michael Jordan’s fondness for baseball is well-documented. The greatest basketball player of all time even retired from the NBA for a couple years to play minor-league baseball.
Now owner of the Hornets, Jordan is trying to buy a share of another team – the Miami Marlins, as part of Derek Jeter’s bid.
Josh Kosman, Ken Davidoff and Claire Atkinson of the New York Post:
Interestingly, NBA great Michael Jordan is among a group of about 15 investors in the Jeter camp, sources said — although the ex-hoopster is said to be kicking in very little cash.
Jeter sees Jordan as a role model in how to become a successful sports executive, a source who knows Jeter said.
Jordan has successfully transitioned from playing to owning. He could help Jeter.
But Jeter reportedly wants control of the Marlins without contributing too much money. What are the odds Jordan has, or eventually develops, similar aspirations? |

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/08/11/marlins-sale-derek-jeter/560661001/
Quote: | Derek Jeter is about to become a co-owner of the Miami Marlins.
Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has agreed to sell the franchise for $1.2 billion to the New York Yankees legend and his group led by New York businessman Bruce Sherman, a directly involved with the sale confirmed to USA TODAY.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the sale is not complete
The Miami Herald was the first to report the Sherman-Jeter group was in agreement with Loria.
The agreement is expected to be completed on Friday and submitted to Major League Baseball, which likely will not vote on the transaction at next week's owners' meetins in Chicago.
Jeter, who is expected to contribute about $25 million in the sale, is expected to run the Marlins' baseball and business side, according to the Herald, with Sherman serving as the club's "control person" regarding all matters relating to MLB and the central office.
Loria, 76, bought the Marlins for $158.5 million in 2002 from John Henry. The Marlins won the World Series in 2003 but haven't reached the playoffs since, the longest current drought in the National League.

Somebody actually decided to give Jeter full control of the business and baseball side with his contribution of only $25 million? |

Just like those worthless Boston carpetbaggers the McCourts. Maybe MLB should vet their potential owners a bit better.
Loria has made out like a bandit wherever he went, from screwing Montreal out of the Expos with Bud Selig to screwing Miami as an owner. Somehow this cockroach will probably find his way onto another team to exploit. |
