Didn't like him as a coach, but I'm aligned with most of his thoughts.

Most fans are delusional analyzing the players from their own team.

Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson hung out at the Sparks’ season-opener
Quote:
Kobe Bryant is busy making short films and videos for ESPN, while Magic Johnson’s schedule is filled with hist responsibilities as the Lakers’ president of basketball operations, but both found time to go watch the Los Angeles Sparks win their season-opener 78-68 over the Seattle Storm Saturday as they mount their WNBA title defense.

Nightmare. Putting a bunch of big names on a roster and playing guys out of position isn't a real plan.

Rudy T. and his son are out. Was wondering if they'd be retained.

Quote:
The Lakers’ wave of sea changes in their basketball operations department included Rudy Tomjanovich, who coached the Lakers 43 games into the 2004-05 season before abruptly resigning and serving as a consultant for the Lakers in various capacities in subsequent years.

A Lakers spokesperson attributed Tomjanovich’s departure to “part of the reorganization of basketball operations,” which took place shortly after the 2016-17 season ended in mid-April. Last season, Tomjanovich served as a consultant and scout for the Lakers’ basketball analytics department. Tomjanovich’s son, Trey, also is not part of the staff after serving as a consultant and helping with statistical analysis in the basketball analytics department.

The Lakers had signed Tomjanovich to a five-year, $30 million contract to replace Phil Jackson for the 2004-05 season after guiding the Houston Rockets to two NBA championships (1994, 1995) during his 12-year tenure (1991-2003). But Tomjanovich resigned 43 games into the 2004-05 season with a 24-19 record, citing physical and emotional difficulties. The Lakers still retained Tomjanovich in a consulting capacity.

Tomjanovich had been previously linked to a dark part of the Lakers’ history. Tomjanovich, who played with the Rockets from 1971 to 1981, suffered a vicious punch from former Lakers forward Kermit Washington during an on-court scuffle at the Forum. Tomjanovich suffered compound facial fractures and retired in 1981.

And still be comfortably behind GSW. Just be patient, this era isn't going to be worth chasing anything.

How do you know the next era will be? What if two other super-teams form? Gonna hide from them by tanking for the next decade too?

Our boy Byron with his thoughts

Didn't like him as a coach, but I'm aligned with most of his thoughts.

Most fans are delusional analyzing the players from their own team.

Very true we as fans tend to over value our young players. Have to go back to what Charles Barkley said about the Lakers' youth. He said; they are Good young players but not good enough and will not be good enough to get out of the bottom of the Western conference. In other words if we rely on our own feelings about our young players we will be in tank mode for the next 10 years! I know BS is hated in this forum, and as a coach I believe he was the wrong choice for this young squad. His situation with Kobe leaving and wanting to put him in the best position was a very difficult one , and he was certainly used for that purpose and that purpose only. Which speaks terrible of how they used the name of a one time Laker star to their own advantage. I believed he was the only coach in the NBA that would take that job, and that was because he loved the Lakers, as nobody in their right mind would put their reputation at risk. Again one of the reasons why Jim Buss and Mitch needed to be fired.

Umm, no one wanted to hire Byron either. It's not as if he was the only one who wanted the position. They went in-house to get a familiar person, who just happened to be unemployed (for a reason).

Are you a GM? How do you know that? Byron was a good coach when surrounded with star players (ie PG13, Kidd) horrible with new wave players that need their ego's massaged (Kyrie , Russell). He was the wrong coach for a young squad, and the only purpose of hiring him was to appease Kobe. Bad choice as they could have used anyone but decided to give fans false hopes using the name of a once loved star and pairing him with one that was about to go. I'm so glad Jimbo and Mitch are gone, thanks to their decisions they have regressed this team by 10 years.

Ouch, sounds like the 1990's Mets. Let's spend a lot of money and put a lot of names on a team so we can win nothing... I see a few people on that list who wouldn't fit Luke's system. There are three Bulls starters on that list. And somehow Clarkson is still on the team over our other young core...

Yeah, why believe a guy who was coached by Byron during the prime years of his coaching days?
