I don't know what the parents were thinking. The sea lion snapped at the child twice. Why would they allow her to sit on the side of the dock. These are wild animals. People bring food and feed them. The sea lion was most likely looking to get fed. He/She almost did. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

They have such tiny heads for an animal that weighs 1200 pounds. |

Well, that was completely avoidable.
But credit to the guy (relative?) with the quick reaction to jump in after her. |

But is it accurate?
I've seen multiple sauces that say the sea lion was just being playful. A few others reporting it was hungry.
Attacking carries a connotation that the sea lion was angry with the girl ( I've seen reports of this as well). |

I didn't click the link because your title said "eating a little girl." So thanks for making thread title more accurate. |

Here's my non-marine biologists take but coming from a guy who has spent a lot of time scuba diving with sea lions and being around them.
That's a fully mature bull, and a pretty big one. Sea lions are definitely playful. Mom's and pups are a ton of fun when they are feeling safe. But big bulls like that tend to keep an eye on things, and when they engage with people, it is usually a warning/punitive move to get someone to backoff.
I've been on the wrong end of a pissed of bull sea lion and they are pretty aggressive in making their displeasure known, but they know to do so and back off. These people, in the course of feeding the sea lions (which is illegal and unwise) found a way to irritate the local Bull who got frustrated and lashed out in an aggressive but relatively harmless way. He was "playfully" saying get out of here. Believe me, if that sea lion had wanted to actually hurt that girl, she would have been taken deep under water. He let her go immediately. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
