This roster isn't good enough to compete with the dual MVP led Warriors.
How's he going to get a competitive team? Who can he deal K.Love for / Is he going to trade Kyrie, maybe for a 2way stud like Butler...
Is Lebron going to go to a city/team that Free Agent's want to go to?

If Westbrook hints that him staying in OKC is completely up in the air, OKC may have to trade him to not have the KD situation happen again - at that point, KLove may be the best deal they can get..

Take the vet min in San Antonio for a year to troll the Warriors. Recruit CP3 as well.

It'd be hilarious just watching two all-star teams going at it in the WCF:
CP3/ Green/ Kawhi/ Bron/ ???

vs.

Curry/ Klay/ KD/ Dray/ ???

So, this is what Stern F'ed us for?? So the league is not competitive at all, but two sheeet holes get to compete for the ring for the next 5 years.

Stern did such a great job, deek head!

I don't know what you're talking about. When the last CBA came up it was the Lakers and Celtics and everyone else. Now the NBA is completely different. It's the Warriors and Cavs and everyone else. See? Parody. I mean parity.

Definitely don't think he'll bring the same exact core back. One major change/addition is happening

He could get Adam Silver to retroactively veto Durant's deal with the Warriors and then sign with them himself.

Or if he were 3-4 years younger he could sign with the Sixers, Timberwolves, or even the Lakers and likely have an all-star team ready for him by his third year. But he doesn't have the time for that now.

Realistically he'll probably just trade Love for Carmelo or something like that.

Between 80-91, the Lakers were in 9 of 12 NBA Finals, winning 5. In that span, between 80-87, the Celtics were in 5 NBA Finals, winning 3. The only other teams to make the Finals in that era were Houston (0-2), Philly (1-2), and Detroit (2-1).

Then the Bulls won 6 out of 8 years, with Houston winning 2 consecutive Finals in between the threepeats.

The next era would be the Shaq/Kobe/Duncan era. Between 1999-2014, Duncan's Spurs went to 6 Finals, winning 5. The Lakers, of course, went to 7 Finals between 2000 and 2010, winning 5. Since 2007, Lebron has been to the Finals 8 times in 11 years, winning 3.

Now, putting that all in perspective, the Warriors 3 straight Finals appearances with 1 win and probably a 2nd one, doesn't seem terribly unusual. It is, in fact, pretty par for the course. Since the Magic-Bird era, the league has usually been dominated by two teams for a decade, with a handful of other competitive teams sneaking in (Dallas, OKC, pre-Lebron Miami, Detroit...). Stern's veto did close the door on extending the Kobe Lakers window--we can say that the theoretical Kobe, CP3, Howard team might have made a Final between 2011 and 2013. So you'd merely have a Kobe era that was more akin to Magic or Lebron's reign with 8 or 9 Finals appearances in 12-13 years and maybe that elusive 6th ring for Kobe.

So the veto, while awful for us Lakers fans, did nothing to really make the league less competitive. Basketball is a sport where one or two players can be so much better and dominate the game so much that they necessarily make it anti-competitive. Even if there was an equal distribution of talent, Lebron plus 4 average players would still get to the Finals repeatedly. And you'd likely see a team of Durant plus 4 average guys or Curry and 4 average guys also making the Finals. This is an inevitable. Yeah, it sucks to be one of the other 28 teams, but this is exactly how everyone else felt when Kobe and Shaq were dominating. So just enjoy it for what it is, and it will make the Lakers return to the Finals that much sweeter because we'll know the bitter taste of sucking and not be fans that expect to be there every year.

One possibility is Love to Orlando for Biyombo, Vuvevic and 2-3 of their 4 picks. Then Vuvevic and the picks to Indy for PG. Replace Love with a 2 way player in PG and add Biyombo's defense off the bench.

Interesting, I read that if GS keeps their core at market value for the next 3 years they will pay $1.3 billion in salary and tax.

I dont see anything realistically the Cavs can do unless another star pulls off a "Durant".
I dont feel bad about it either, Lebron started the whole artificially grown super teams and now has to play through the rest of his prime against a super team he has very little chance of beating.

We saw this a long time ago. These "max" contracts as well as the insane 7 years lock-in for the great players means that once they leave their 7 year lock-in, they really want to go win and forgo quite a bit of money to do so.

Durant is doing exactly that as well as others.

The "rookie salaries" and extensions system is broken and needed to be fixed ages ago.

Love will be shipped and Lebron will get a Melo or some type of star wing player to compete with Golden State.

That would not be a surprise considering this generation of players.

I'm pretty sure Lebron and Cavs are smart enough to realize a Melo for Love swap will not make them any better.

ironically, if Lebron didnt set the precedent of a MVP level player abandoning his team to shamelessly form a super team for a cheap/easy way to a title, I think theres a decent chance Durant doesnt try to do what he did to get on the Warriors.

So GSW may not be able to keep their own core together. I could see them consider trading D. Green or Klay for cheaper alternatives.

Moses Malone actually set the precedent for this in 1982, but yeah Lebron was probably the first superstar in the modern age to pretty much declare he didn't particularly care what jersey he wore.

Now superstars leave teams after putting out a perfunctory "It's been great!" public letter and no one bats an eye.
