There are people on that list with an enormous "rise" factor, but O.J. takes the cake with the "fall". That is quite a gap in between he has accumulated.

Tiger isn't doing well these days. That's no secret. His "hitting rock bottom" (so far) is equivalent to that of any average Joe that most of us have either experienced personally, or know someone who has experienced.

That being said, this is an interesting topic/poll.

I almost voted Lance, but had to consider how many great cyclists who were doing the same things he was doing at that time. He was just the best of the cheaters in my opinion.

Can't really put Lance up there since cycling is basically invisible here in the US. The only time Americans have even given a damn was when Greg Lemond won back in the 80's, then when Lance pulled off 7 straight and then when Landis won the year afterwards. Once Landis was busted, that started the domino effect of cycling going back to being invisible in the US.

Yes, I agree with that. Tiger surprised me more. Tiger seemed to have his life so . . . choreographed, I guess. It was like everything was planned out and under control. When he got hurt, I suspected right away that it was a bigger deal than people thought. I remember being mocked for saying that, maybe even on this board. When he came back the following year and played well, I thought that I might have been wrong. Then came the scandal, which no one expected. This totally choreographed nerd was a sex addict who was banging porn stars on the side?

OJ had cultivated a popular public image, but no one knew that much about his personal life. It was a surprise, but he never had the image of being someone who was totally in control of his life.

Yeah, surprise is one thing but being widely considered a homicidal double murderer is literally on a whole other plane of consideration. Not even in the same galaxy imo. The level of surprise is independent of the fall from grace. OJ is in prison ffs.

Yep. That's why I had to acknowledge that the magnitude of OJ's fall was greater, with the way the poll question is worded. Personally, I was still more surprised at Tiger's fall and I'll maintain that stance.

I'm not sure that I would call Bobby Fischer a sports figure. Quibbling aside, that's an interesting nomination. For a brief period during the Cold War, he was huge. His fall lasted forty years, and in the end he was about as despicable a person as you can imagine, given that he never actually harmed anyone. I wouldn't put him on OJ's level, because primarily people just forgot he existed (even when he wound up in the title of a movie).

The way things are going, it might be Trump. Dude's been golfing more than Jordan Spieth and he might go from the Presidency to jail.
