Quote:
“Jerry is still driven,” one executive said. “He’s still sharp and he likes competition.”

There is a very strong chance that West’s son, Ryan West, who is the Lakers’ director of player personnel, will join the Clippers in some capacity, one executive said.

Damn!

He's probably going to go down the hall. If it was true that Jerry West wanted to return to the Lakers, they should have taken him up on it. He's a Laker, and it's inexcusable not to have gotten him.

It's true. Jeanie addressed it directly.

Not gonna bother reading the article, I'm sure Jerry would rather have Ryan be able to make his own mark in the league rather than being under his shadow. Same goes for Ryan.

Speculation that makes a whole lot of sense/likelihood.

Jerry's other son Jonnie is a executive with the Dubs. I wonder if he'll join the Clippers too.

Given Jerry is only a consultant, Ryan could still make his mark if he went to Clippers. That's not considering whether he receives a promotion from their management.

Wouldn't be a shock at all if it happened, though.

Just like it happened when Jerry went to Golden State?

Yeah, he brought his other son Jonnie to GS.

I understand that Jeannie/Magic/Pelinka want to stand on their own two feet but I hope it wasn't a matter of ego that kept them from bringing Jerry West back.

For gosh sakes, Jerry is like 80 years old...couldn't they have given him a consulting position for the next 5 or 10 years just to keep him away from helping other teams...especially the Clippers.

It's just like I once heard that when IBM and Microsoft were battling to come out with a new operating system a long time ago. I heard Microsoft bought all the discs on the market that they could and it prevented Microsoft from releasing their product on time. (Is this true?)

Or another Microsoft tactic of buying out small promising competitors and either marketing their product as their own or just burying their technology in the basement.

Oh, but these tactics would be something S Ballmer would be familiar with.

Maybe Jeannie is just out of her league here.

I really hope the Lakers know what they are doing.

No Bueno if this has even an ounce of validity to it

This can't make Ryan feel good. His all time great father is anxious to come back home and he gets thrown to the side.

She's been out her league since day one, just like Jimbo was.

I think it's remarkably stupid of Jeannie not to let Jerry finish his days with the Laker organization, in a consultant role. He belongs here. Instead, he's with the Clippers? ffs.

I just hope we keep the edge we've had in spotting good draft picks late first round and beyond. If Ryan West is the reason for this then Jeannie better treat him well.

Yep. June sports reporting is unabashed garbage.

From previous statements on social media and other outlets, he's not.

The timing just felt so perfect for Jerry to come back. Man. What a blunder. It's MDA over Phil all over again.

Yeah that's why I was concerned when he took over as boss of basketball ops. It was going ok but now I'm back to not being able to shake that knicks 2.0 feeling especially if top FO guys start leaving.

That's one HUGE bad decision for Jeanie. Now she's the only responsible, no more Jim this or Jim that.
