PostPosted: Thu Jun 15, 2017 3:01 pm    Post subject: Lakers reportedly open to trading the second pick

The NBA draft is exactly one week away and it seems that the Lakers don’t have any clear favorites on who they would select with the second overall pick.

Most reports and rumors have the Lakers being undecided between Lonzo Ball and Josh Jackson. However, another intriguing option came about on Thursday as both Chad Ford of ESPN and Tania Ganguli of the LA Times reported that the Lakers are open to trading the pick

From Ford:
Quote:

But another scenario has piqued the franchise’s interest. The Lakers held internal discussions about trading back two spots to No. 4 if the Suns were to offer them a 2018 first-round pick. The Suns hold their own 2018 pick (which currently projects to be a high lottery pick) as well as the rights to the Miami Heat’s 2018 pick. The latter pick is top-seven-protected in 2018 but unprotected in 2019.

This report came hours after Ganguli(Lakers beat writer for the Los Angeles Times) reported that the team had made calls about trading the second pick.
Quote:

“ In the month since, however, the Lakers have been taking and making calls about trading the pick, said a source who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject. They’ve had scenarios presented to them, and offered their own.”

DLO might be light years ahead of those guys (to borrow from the Warriors owner).

Or they like everybody enough to the point where they don't mind who falls to them at #4 or 5.

The heat's pick should be around 15 next year.

So it would be the #2 for #4, #15 (2018)

I'd pull the trigger on that deal. It would give me something to look foward to during the 2018 offseason.

Makes sense. Get your guy (they value multiple guys equally) and get an additional asset out of it. I like it.

Maybe it's a misdirection reverse psychology move to get Boston off the scent of who they really want.

This sounds all good and dandy until Miami tanks next year to keep the pick. I'm sure the Lakers are mulling over every possible option. If it's a wash between picks then it would make sense. I'm not so sure the Lakers have come to that conclusion just yet.

Pre-draft clickbait season. Harvest time for reporters.

I think I might jump on this, potentially getting a an unprotected card 2019 pick would be unreal.
I don't know who we would pick at 4 though.

Adding a 2018 first puts the 2019 first into play in a trade.

Then we would get the 2019 unprotected. That's an asset, unless lebron goes to Miami and screws it up for us

Or the 2018 we receive as well since we have a pick this year.

Imo this draft is just really good for top 7-8. I don't see a big gap tbh, it's that good for the prospects slotted for those spots.

My guess would be Fox since he's the only guy we have brought in for a workout at that tier of players.

Just take Lonzo or Fultz and run please. No realistic trade is worth it.
