PostPosted: Fri Jun 16, 2017 10:08 am    Post subject: A Little Perspective: Pre-May 16, 2017

I think now’s a good time to reflect a bit on this terrible journey we’ve been on this year. We’ve lost a lot of games, have been the joke of the national media, and are generally an afterthought on-court wise.

Can we just go back to pre-May 16, 2017, the date of the draft? Folks here (including me) were genuinely concerned that we would lose this pick and the 2019 1st as well. Few weeks prior to that, there was much angst about the Lakers “losing” by “winning.” Yet, here we are, about to draft 2nd.

I think it’s a good time to just take a breath and be a bit thankful, maybe even be positive, about how fortunate we are to have this pick. We will end up with one of Fultz, Ball, or Jackson. I can absolutely be happy with anyone of them. To top it off, we will have a 28th pick to be excited about, and the continued growth of our young core.

I’m happy that we are where we are today, all things considered. It could
have been a much bleaker situation but thankfully it’s not.

Go Lakers!

You're sig says it all...

"The tank is finished".

Happy days are ahead, next year we will win 45-48 games and get the young guys.. playoff experience then it's a take off after that.

At "worst," we will end up with one of Fultz/Ball/Jackson (and we keep our 2019 1st). I mean, it's amazing how quickly we forget how lucky we are.

Of course we should be thankful that we have an extremely valuable asset, but that's all the more reason to make sure we don't screw it up.

Also, I agree that we'll "probably" take one of those three, but we don't have any kind of track record on this F.O. They might trade down, as well.

Still a bit of house money for me. I trust that they will get the best value out of the pick.

Yeah. This is what I've come to as well. I've also included Jackson in the mix too (just no Fox please!).

Just look at the net and the splashes. Don't watch the release.

Was LG in need of a pep talk? There are always the outliers that have no perspective, that need to be reminded. But I thought overall, LG was in a good mood heading into June 22nd.

It's always helpful. Some folks getting way too much into the weeds tearing apart some of these prospects. Helpful reminder that this is house money considering the ominous circumstances we faced on May 16, 2017.

It's amazing how accurate he is with that funky stroke, but the results don't lie.

In 15 years, a 30 for 30 special on how all the recent high school basketball prospects from Los Angeles all have terrible shooting forms.

The release actually looks nice, if you don't care where it goes before that point.

Great post. I'm so happy we kept the pick and will be happy with anyone we draft. The only thing I'm praying for is that we don't get trade the pick for a player who's already in their prime and in their late 20's.

Which is why I'm still beside myself over the decision to turn our backs on Jerry West. I'll never get over that one until we have a dynasty/superteam. Egos already holding us back after just a few months.
