If you want to beat the Warriors, it's all about the other players. If they are sacrificed to form a LBJ/PG13 combo then it's a waste because Kyrie is better than PG13, offensively at least. Then you almost have to rebuild immediately because of LBJ's age. How long is he going to remain dominant? You need a closer with LBJ, and PG13 is not the closer that Kyrie is.
If we can somehow get these two without wiping the table, I'm all in. But if we lose everybody to build around Lebron and Paul, that will feel like Kobe, Nash, Howard again. |

I believe the only way to get this kind of flexibility is getting rid of Deng/Mozgov alongside assets like Clarkson/Julius.
Russell, Ingram, Nance, Zubac and #2 pick is a legit supporting cast for a pair of all stars of LeBron and Paul George caliber, but it may take a couple of seasons for those players to get there not because they lack talent, but experience matters. |

i just want someone to humor me. theoretically possible. if we dumped 28/deng/moz/clarkson/future picks for expirings (somehow) and then had those 6 contracts, is it possible in anyway to give 2 maxes to LBJ and PG |

I'm not an expert but I did the math, which I think I got correct.
1. Lakers cannot sign anyone (other than the 2 and 28 pick) that extends beyond the 2017-18 season.
2. Trade Deng or Mozgov. Preferably Deng since he has the higher contract. Trouble will be that no one will take on these terrible contracts without getting something of value of return (like the players you mention).
3. Use the stretch provision on Deng or Mozgov, whichever player is remaining from step 2.
That should get us close to being able to sign 2 max free agents.
Other than Deng/Mozgov, the two largest hits to the cap are Clarkson and Randle. Randle will be a free agent 2018 offseason which will result in a larger cap hold. Randle's cap hold will reduce the cap space we have for a free agent in 2018 and this is one reason why I prefer to trade Randle for another young player that was drafted in 2015 or later (Randle was drafted in 2014) since the new player would still be under rookie contract.
A trade that might work is Deng + Randle for Cauley-Stein + Arron Afflalo + Langston Galloway.

BALL
RUSSELL
GEORGE
JAMES
RANDLE
That team competes with the Warriors 2018-2019 season. We probably beat them in 6 games. |

I'm not sure we can realistically do it without trading Randle, unless Indy was willing to accept Clarkson/Black/#28.
If you're willing to sacrifice Randle...
-Trade Clarkson and Randle for Paul George
-Trade Mozgov and #28 for a conditional 2nd round pick
-Stretch Deng
Next summer, you sign Lebron, and then re-sign Paul George.
Left with:
Lonzo/#2 pick
Ingram
Paul George
Lebron
Zubac

Russell
Nance

In what crazy world do we have Lonzo and the #2 pick and Ingram being a better option than DLO at SG? _________________ Don't let perfect be the enemy of good |

1) That's Lonzo OR the #2 pick - obviously if we pick Josh Jackson, then Russell is starting at point.
2) You can set the lineup however you want. But playing against the Warriors, that is the lineup I want. |

my pipe:
clarkson/28/"assets" for PG
mozgov/"assets" for lopez (meaning mozgov $ is gone)
stretch deng
lonzo (1/2/3)
russell (1/2)
ingram (2/3/4)
pg13 (2/3/4)
lebron (3/4/5)
randle (3/4/5)
zubac (5)
nance (3/4/5)
that beats GSW in a few years. |

If we are not trading for George, and are signing him and LBJ next summer and we keep the #2 and #28, we would need to not sign any players past next season, trade Mozgov + Clarkson for an expiring contract (like Lopez), waive and stretch Deng (no one will trade for him), and that would get us close to being 60 million under the cap (30 million each), and that includes keeping Randle and his cap hold. Now if we renounced our rights to Randle that would free up more room. To be honest, its not impossible... |

so basically shedding clarkson/mozgov/deng for expirings/stretching. with maybe the 28 and other future picks as sweetners.
exciting. |

We will not acquire LBJ for max at age 34 unless we have two more top-15 level players, so George is not enough. We would have a 1-2 year window with LeBron at that age. |

Without giving up value/assets:
1. Stretch provision on Deng to 5 years (after this year) - save 11 mil/year
2. Trade JC (easy contract to trade) - save 12 mil/year
Doing this, you save a little bit over 23 million/year WITHOUT TOUCHING your assets.
If you need to create more room, you need to give up assets OR play Deng/Moz a lot this season, and pray they play well and show value. |

A 28 year old George and a 34 year old Lebron, with this roster...
PG - Ball / ???
SG - Russell / ???
SF - George / Ingram
PF - Lebron / Nance
C - Randle / Zubac
Yea, that team in two seasons beats the Warriors. It can also be done assuming we trade Clarkson and stretch Mozgov/Deng, making no mention of trading Mozgov/Deng. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Nah, skip on Lebron.
At 34 he'll likely due for a serious injury at that point onwards with all those minutes played since he was 18. _________________
