I like your last tidbit about PG13 not coming, isn't the end. I would love to get PG13 but I think if a team like Houston trades for him, he will opt to stay there since the Rockets will have a better roster situation then the Lakers. |

If I understand it right, the Lakers currently do not have 30M cap space in 2018. They need to 1) clear Clarkson or 2) stretch MozDeng. Even then they do not have space to keep Randle after signing PG13.
Therefore, assuming MozDeng stays, the best choice is still a trade before the deadline with a package of Randle +Clarkson. Otherwise, they need to trade Clarkson for possibly a pick and/or expiring contract so signing PG outright becomes a truly feasible option.
As much as the team may want to keep the whole young core together, it is just difficult to fit all of them into the cap. |

Hmm, I think Randle's hold was like 12M, so how close is it if they do all that? |

Keeping Mozdeng - probably have to decide between Clarkson and Randle if they want to sign PG outright.
Can trim some space by getting out of Mozdeng that can allow for Clarkson/Randle - but likely costs a good pick - better than a 28 - and/or a valuable player _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Hello our resident Cap Guru (Emplay). So lets just say hypothetically the Pacers get desperate and trade PG13 to the Lakers for a package involving Jordan Clarkson, Mosgov and picks (they include Jefferson's expiring deal; team option, 2018).
Would the Lakers be in position to offer Westbrook the max in 2018 if they opted to stretch out Deng? (assuming Westbrook does not sign an extension with OKC of course and opts out at the end of 2018) |

let's just say if the Lakers need to find a way to get George and another max player they can - how doesn't really matter - it's feasible but such things often depend on other teams cooperating which is far less likely _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

It will take quite a bit of compensation via picks to send out Mozgov and get back Paul George. Which picks are being sent to the Pacers? |

Mosgov, 28th pick, future 1st (2020) and Jordan Clarkson for Paul George and AL Jefferson (expiring). Stretch provision Deng.
I guess that should create extra cap room for another max player.
Either that or I am fine just seasoning our current players and adding PG13 to the mix. Not sure that gets us past GS though for at least another 2-3 years. |

Quote: | The Lakers can instead choose to waive and stretch the $102 million owed to the two veterans, but that will eat up almost $15 million of the team's salary cap over a seven-year period. Should the Lakers stretch the pair in 2018, the hit would be $9.9 million for five straight years. |
Eric, is this true?
i was thinking more like:
Deng 18+18.8 = 36.8/5 = 7.36/yr
Mozgov 16+16.7= 32.7/5 = 6.54/yr
----------------------------
Total = 7.36+6.54 = 13.9/yr
what am i wrong at? _________________ Now Playing: The Zo Show @Staples |

Nobodies going to take the chance of trading for George. Except first Cleveland or LA. |
