What is the latest status on Deng? Last I heard he went MIA when he was benched towards the end of the season and didn't show for his exit interview?

Do we know if he's talked to Magic and in the gym? If he's on the team, I certainly hope for a better year out of him. Is he looking to redeem himself?

Since he is under contract, I would expect some engagement from him.

Any updates?

He was excused from his exit interview, but was quoted post season saying:

Quote:
“There’s a bitter taste in my mouth,” Deng said. “I just gotta come back with a chip on my shoulder. This year started to build a fire inside me. I don’t tell people a lot of times because I carry on not being as competitive, but I’ve got a lot of people to shut up next year.”

...

“I feel like I worked very hard coming into this season and continued to work hard,” Deng said. “It was just one of those, just the way the team was made up and having to learn so much, I had a hard time trying to be consistent in the system.”

He has been running a camp for Sudanese players in Iowa this summer.

Well, if he remains on the team, I am hoping he comes into camp ready to go.

Can I ask, why did he struggle so much this past season? He seemed out of shape. Didn't he come off of surgery or something the previous year with the Heat? I don't recall the details.

Don't show up again in Lakers Jersey.

Ask his agent to go look for a trade

If nobody takes him, sit him home and stretch him next summer

I wonder if there would be any takers? I am sure Magic and Pelinka are trying hard to move him. Though people are disappointed with losing Russell, I am thrilled that the Lakers at least moved Mozgov and got back a better center with Lopez. Where can you move Deng?

Wouldn't they have to waive him and buyout the rest of his contract?

How does that work?

Hope he comes into camp and shows he can still play. Hoping he excels is probably overly optimistic but ideally he could play well enough to make moving his contract to another team slightly more feasible.

They pay what is owed and that counts against the cap.

I think ideally the front office would like to get rid of Deng, JC, and possibly Randle's impending contract with one fell swoop. Not sure what their plan is though, but I'm quite sure they have one. They were offering an unprotected first rounder for Deng or Moz during the draft but no one would bite.

Oh ok...makes sense. I agree, let's see if he comes into camp ready to prove himself. I know he has some game but I think he didn't come into camp in very good shape last season.

Didn't he have surgery when he was in his last year with the Heat and that could have been part of the reason for his lack of conditioning?

I thought I read that...

I don't like his contract but I think he is much better than he played last season. He struggled out the gate. He never got into a rhythm. He never came off the bench in his career. Playing with young guys. New coach. He can still play.

I agree...plus I think he came off of an injury and was never in shape last year.
