Thanks DB. Frustrating seeing momentum slip away from this young Laker squad after they dominated a good portion of the first half. It's easy to see where middling NBA vets are still head and shoulder better than highly talented high ceiling 19 year old recruits not far removed from high school.

Lonzo - unimpressive debut but I agree with your comments. That ugly 3 of his would normally fall, should fall more often, and most likely will fall more often once he settles down and regains his focus. As for the rest of his game, I'm a bit perplexed he didn't push the pace, move off ball. attack the rim, and find more ways to contribute since his 3 wasn't falling.

I thought Kuzma played OK, but I don't see how he fits in differently than Nance would. Still, I liked his hustle and activity, and he seemed to be on several key plays during Laker comebacks late.

Hart - not nearly enough playing time. I really liked what I saw with him out there. I like how active he was on defense. Really want to see more of him.

T.Bryant Hoosier Mamba whos ya Daddy! FTW!

Dozier - I keep thinking of DJ Dozier, not PJ Dozier. Some actual playing time might help change that. I just need to remember he's not an old draft bust NFL running back.

Blue/Caruso - please I've seen enough.

Wear - not bad I guess.

Ingram - Best player on the floor for either team, and it's not even close!!! Hitting shots from all over the floor, passing, a few turnovers but light years better than he was 12 months ago! That's something to remember looking at Ball and where he's at right now.

One good thing is Ingram showed that he will be a star. And if his shooting comes around a super star. He is a keeper.

Having doubts about Lonzo. His awkward form makes it difficult to be consistent with his shot. Some tweaking my the coaches will help. And he has trouble stay in front of his man. But if his shooting comes around he
still has an upside.
Way too much hype and pressure on Lonzo now. And LaVar doesn't help with his big mouth. Lonzo needs to concentrate work on his shot.

Bryant looks like a keeper. He looks a LOT faster and more mobile than Zubac. His defense seems better.

It seems like the Lakers don't like good shooters. They lost their best shooters in Nick Young, DLO, and Lou Williams. Can't win without good shooters.

They don't "like good shooters"?. Swaggy left of his own accord, Williams was traded for a 1st round pick and to allow the young guys to have PT and DLO shot below average at every distance last year.

Stop the hate and start supporting, BI and Bryant are beasts!!

AAAAA! (As Always An Awesome Analysis!)

Did you get any intel on why Hart got so little playing time 1) in general and 2) with Ball? [I want to say, from memory, they maybe played just a handful of minutes together]

It seems to me Hart is a vastly better fit than Blue for what works with Lonzo.
Totally agree with the assessment of AAAAA!!

Understanding that these games are like college freshmen pickup games and this was the first one for the Lakers.

Zuboc seemed lost on defense and they didn't go to him in the post

Bryant appeared (especially in the first half) to have a motor like Embiid and was very active, in stark contrast to Zuboc

Ball's initiating passes to assists and hockey assists, especially after rebounds, seemingly have the entire team to have the mindset to always be attacking

Caruso and Blue apparently are in camp to see if they can provide the shooting that the team desperately needs. They were inconsistent with their open looks

It is just the first actual game for many of these athletes and they are just getting off the rust

My thoughts

Lonzo - D

He ran the offense well but he had that deer in the headlight moment through out the game. Airball, Kendall sagging on him, was afraid to shoot for the most part but he let it rain at the end. Defensively, he's not putting any pressure and he keeps getting caught on picks and screens. He need to put more effort. Also he seems uncomfortable with contacts and he's shying away from it at both ends.

Ingram A+

He just dominated. He can score anytime he wants too. 3 ball looks good, just not falling. Also his Defense is starting to matter. He's like everywhere. He still need to get stronger to physical impose his will.

Zu F-

Out of shape, step slower on every play. Also need to get stronger and leaner. He looks like he's just jogging and too finesse down low.

Nwaba D

If he's ever going to develop a jumpshot, he need to just stroke it. In a couple of occasions, he was open for a 3 ball up yet he elected to drive. He can't do that if he wants to be part of rotation.

Kuzma C

Limited game but decent everywhere. Can't create his own shot bu he Can shoot, can move the ball, likes playing defense and does all the little things. Looks like a solid role player and could carve a lengthy career as a stretch 4.

Hart C

Limited game too. I don't see him as a guy that can make plays or create his shot but good team player. His shooting is off but looks good and I think he can stroke that 3 ball to keep the defense honest. His defense is also solid.

Bryant A +

Limited but very active and he's all over the floor hustling. I like his motor and his enthusiastic approach. He can run, he can shoot and has that athleticism that we need from his position. Magic should just sign him already.

Vander F -

Just take him off from the roster. He was like a cheap combo version of Bad Porn and Black Hole all together. No shooting and no intention of passing back.

Wear D -

Another waste of roster spot. He can shoot and nothing else.

Coach F -

I dunno why this coach giving a lot of minutes to Wear and Vander. There's nothing to see with these guys. Should just give it to Hart and Kuzma instead.

Perfect analysis from what I saw as well

As I understand it, the players have all been coming into the Lakers' workout facility since the season ended. How can Zu be out of shape? I am not saying that CRoost is wrong--because last night was dreadful--I just don't understand what is happening.

Z might be out of "Game Speed" shape and he doesn't possess outrageous athletic ability like Bryant to compensate.

With Ball not used to P&Rs (they don't use this much as UCLA) and Z is the most productive in P&Rs, finding a happy compromise is something that the Summer League is all about.

Ingram and Z have vowed to dominate in these Summer games. BI has started, what will we see from Zubac today

I think we found another steal with Thomas Bryant. He is a hard worker and that usually translates at the next level. I love the energy and passion he brings and the fact that he can shoot the 3 is just gravy.

Really only watched the first half of the game, haven't watched the 2nd half. Probably won't.

Ingram - Looked like the best player on the court, which he should have. Honestly, the thing I was most impressed with was his aggressiveness. That was my biggest knock on him from last year was that he was too passive. He moved the ball well, and even had some really good passes that I don't think we saw from him last year. Shooting stroke looked better than last year, but I'm not sure he's going to be an elite shooter by any means. Definitely showed the ability to attack the basket much better than he did last year.

Ball - I'm not expecting him to shoot 2-15 again, let's put that out there. You don't shoot 70% from 2PT and 40% from 3PT in college and put up a clunker like that without just having a bad shooting night. Had a couple ill advised shots, but he missed wide open ones. And that's too be expected. Defensively, he's never going to be a great individual defender, but i think his ability to use his length in recovery and as a help defender is going to have to be his niche. Really loved his passing and not afraid to push the ball in transition.

Zubac - Really looked like he regressed. Was really hoping that he would take that next step, but I think he might have gone backwards based on that game. Just seemed behind a step, and didn't really seem to play with any sort of aggressiveness.

Kuzma - I hate making this comparison, but body type wise I see Ben Simmons. Obviously, he's nowhere near as talented as Simmons but I think you can see his future as stretch 4.

Nobody else really made an impression with me. Thomas Bryant is still an enigma for me, and Hart didn't really play much.
