Lately I have been surrounded with insane Jordan fans that talk about Jordan as the GOAT. If you separate Space Jam and selling custom Nikes with Basketball stats he doesn't compare. To some of the younger NBA fans on this board I recommend checking out Kareem Abdul Jabbar stats.

Sorry, but the latest narrative isn't about Jordan being the GOAT, but it's Lebron. Somehow many people feel Lebron has not only caught up to Jordan, but surpassed him. Many kids have never see Jordan play, so they just agree that it's Lebron and move on. The truth is Jordan was was never terrified by a 6'3", scrawny, bad ankles having, jump shooting point guard.

I have only seen late Kareem, and I understand his dominance, but to me, Jordan is the GOAT. I cheered for him to lose every time he stepped on the court and he basically ripped my heart out every night. It was tougher because I was a Knicks fan back then and we took our lumps. He is where Mamba Mentality came from. He is reason why NBA is huge today. He is the reason why Kobe has that post move & why Lebron wears 23. He is the reason why Pippen is at Top 50 All Time Great. I could go on for a while, but you get my drift....

This has been discussed and discussed. Stats are Stats; they're
an Important element but you need to see the games and be
"unbiased" ( which is bull because everyone is).

The GOAT is a matter of opinion., we don't need to discuss
this.....again.

Dude, all you're saying in this post is that Kareem beats Jordan in terms of longevity. That's one point in his favor but it's certainly not the only point.

Here's a hint: also look at career averages, career peak, rings, MVP awards, and final MVP awards, and then you'll see that neither of them blows the other away.

You can make a good case for either one of them as goat. If you pretend you can't argue for Jordan as well as you can for Kareem, you'll lose the debate with your friends in a few seconds because your arguments going to be too simplistic

Most people that think about Kareem, only remember him from his later years with the Lakers. He won a lot of rings, still had the skyhook but was not close to the player that we was in his younger years for the Bucks.

I was a fan of his from the UCLA days and his first few years in the league, he was a monster. 35ppg 16 rpg 5 apg. He was the only guy in the league who could play Wilt and have Wilt worried. Point is, he was dominating in a way that his later career couldn't compare with. 6 time MVP, 6 Championships. Only missed the all-star game once in his whole career.

To me, Jordan was perhaps more skilled athletically but as far as basketball goes, nobody has had a greater career than Jabbar. He is my GOAT up to now. Lebron has no shot at replacing him, let along Jordan, Kobe or Magic.

Plus Huey Lewis was the Nickleback of the 80's. Nickleback fans can't read either...

Its not that I don't enjoy these GOAT discussions, they are fun sometimes, but its that we should spend more time up front discussing our CRITERIA. For example, I don't put that much merit in championships and accolades, while that is all some people focus on.

To me, GOAT = Most valuable = the answer to this question:

If I were to choose any player in history to start a team with, which one gives me the greatest chances to win the most and the longest?

Longevity matters, but no basketball player ever has the resume that Kareem has High School through NBA and it's not even close.

Are you serious, or just having a little fun? I find it hard to believe that you just noticed that MJ is the consensus GOAT.

I enjoy researching players and older NBA teams to learn more everyday. This weekend I was reading up on Dennis Johnson as The MVP of the Sonics in 1979. I also read about the Philadelphia Warriors and the roster they had. Many of my friends are casual NBA fans that follow mainstream Sports history. I enjoy sharing cool things about great former players in this forum. This thread is my appreciation of the head to head matchup of the Captain vs Air Jordan. I think it's incorrect he is commented on as the greatest.

Kareem is the GOAT, no basketball player ever has the resume that Kareem has High School through NBA and it's not even close.

High School
Best Player in the Nation and Lead his team to Championships each year

College
Best Player in the Nation all 4 years and lead every team he was on to Championships in each of them

NBA
6 NBA Championships and we've covered the stats and longevity.

There is no NBA Player with the resume of Kareem and the longevity of excellence and being the absolute best at every single level and every single year at that level from 16 till he was 34 and won finals MVP at age 37 against one of the greatest Celtics teams of all time.

No other basketball player will ever match Kareem's resume from high school through NBA, and it isn't close.

This a Jordan thread but here is the Baylor breakdown. Not sure how you come to that conclusion after reading the numbers and achievements by Roger Murdoch.

He also never flinched in practice when Bruce Lee was blocking his high kicks.
