I heard about it over half an hour ago from my friend, but didn't want to post until the news actually broke. This after Chris Cornell died recently.

Suicide is so sad, on the surface you'd perhaps look at a famous person with talent, money and a ton of admirers would be living the good life, but goes to show that you never know.

Hybrid Theory is one of my all time favourites. RIP Chester

A friend of mine committed suicide a few weeks ago. Picture the person in your life you least expect would do something like this and that was him. Happy, talented, and universally loved by everyone he met. One of the hardest things to process when you get news like that is how little sense it makes.

They were supposed to perform at the Hollywood Bowl in October, I presume the tour is basically cancelled. Last performance I saw him do was at the Jimmy Kimmel show a couple months back, and it was a tribute song to Chris Cornell.

Linkin Park was a huge part of my childhood. Chester especially.

I'm in shock. I still can't believe it.

Wow. Linkin Park was my favorite band growing up and even if their music hasn't been that great in a while I still listen to them. This sucks man. RIP Chester.

This one makes sense though. He struggled with drugs and alcohol, and one of his closest friends (Chris Cornell) also committed suicide. IIRC today would have been Cornell's birthday, so that probably explains the timing.

Dies the same way his close friend Chris Cornell did. Have to wonder if that played into it seeing as it's Cornell's birthday. Battled depression, addiction, and childhood sexual abuse. A unique voice among unique voices. RIP.

I would imagine one of your best friends dying would trigger a downward spiral for somebody prone to bouts of depression.

Sorry to hear it. That stuff is kept very well hidden by a lot of people with major depression. Then are some who hide the depression itself. Feelings of guilt, shame, embarrassment, they don't want to put their family through admitting they feel like doing it. Also, they don't want anyone to try to change their minds or stop them from doing it. You can easily carry around "comforting" thoughts of committing suicide when things go awry for years and years. Then you have stories like yours, unfort. We had no idea s/he was this upset. The charade helps the depressed people not only hide but retain inside their suicidal thoughts/fantasies/plans. They often have plans that are well-thought out and mulled over for a long time before a suicide that seems to the survivors to be completely spur-of-the-moment. It just takes the one right triggering event to bring the dormant plan into fruition.

Yeah. We were friends in college but hadn't seen each other in a couple years. It came as a real shock to our whole group. The outpouring of love and remembrance has been insane. Everybody sharing memories and stories and old photos. Wish he could have seen it.
